Lagrange Points
« on: April 24, 2020, 01:23:38 PM »
IRL there are two stable lagrange points, one ahead in the orbit and one lagging.  (see the trojan asteroids) currently in game you can stabilize lagrange point on large planets, and do this any number of times.  However all these stabilized points are located on top of each other at the (I believe) lagging lagrange point.  Instead, could we stabilize both front and back points and then no longer have the option? or atleast not let us make 50 lagrange points stabilized on top of each other.

Aurora only uses the L5 points.  So the bug is nothing to do with the L4 point, and only that the 'Stabilize lagrange point' order can be issued multiple times for the same body.

As a bugfix, the multiple stabilizations of the same point is worth fixing. As a feature request, letting us have both L4 and L5 also seems fair. (L1 and L2 make travel way too easy, and if you're excluding them, having L3 would just be weird. But L4 is fine.)

I think it's that there's no real need for both points. IIRC the idea of the system was mainly to make very distant binaries (hundreds of billions of kilometres out from the main star) be less of a dead weight if you get a lucky system gen (which became more needed once hyperdrives were removed) and to just allow general easier travel between distant planets and close ones. The idea isn't really that you would jump between a planet's L4 and L5 point and save a couple days travel. The L5 alone is adequate for the intended gameplay purpose.
