Whining clickbait post with extra salt.
« on: April 16, 2020, 08:15:10 AM »
Hello fellow forum members.

Aurora has been a terribly fun game for me, providing many long hours of entertainment, at least 500mb of word and Excel files to organise and sort my Aurora games, countless tweaks and optimizations, a massive learning curve and just so much joy.

It is sad then that Aurora is going to disappear.
It will be greatly missed.

But wait, this thread is presumptions you say?

Wrong, it is clear now that people are unable to respect Steve's wishes. Steve Walmsley the single developer, and owner of the IP will eventually withdraw his game from th public.

Steve will still get to enjoy the game, perhaps with those whom he personally trusts, perhaps not.

It is inevitable.

The masses simply are too stupid to realize that, with some basic programming knowledge they will override the protection put into place.
Look at every single game ever produced ever.

There are cheats, protection overwrite patches, registry edits, many ways to play or modify the game in a way the developers never intended. These however are a mitigated risk of commercial sales.

Aurora is not a commercial game.
Only one person has the rights to own and operate this game, and that person is also capable of simply removing it from public distribution without punishment.

It is my belief that this sad course of events will happen. The game will be withdrawn. Some people simply cannot respect the wishes of an internet person.

The community, those playing the game should have some respect for the designers wishes.
This is not the case.

Thank you very much Steve.

It's been a fun ride.

What is the point of that thread exactly? Creating more drama? I'll pass

You ever heard of the term "We will cross that bridge when we come to it"?

Another one for you. "No good thing lasts forever so enjoy it while it lasts"

It is my belief that the bridge to be crossed is approaching.
Just wanted to publicly thank Steve for his hard work, and get my opinion across.

It simply isn't true that no good thing lasts forever.
Fairytales, stories, legends, famous deeds, are all recalled and retold through the ages.

I'd like to thank the academy for this award.
Also my manager, my parents and Jimmy who once told me I could do it!

Instead of posting clickbait, how about you edit the title into an ‘appreciation’ thread to rally others to post words of appreciation in a focussed thread ?

I’ll kick off:

Steve, thanks for having made Aurora available to us all, free of charge and with active support to combat bugs.  For a hobby truely outstanding!
What started as a personal gameplay tool has grown into so much more and while I have not been posting much here, I am super grateful for your generosity.
You owe us nothing and those who feel entitled should not be welcome here.

Keep your head cool! And keep up the fantastic work!
We can only hope to be able to lift along for the ride.

The length of OP tells me he is not lying when he says he has 500MB of files he wrote related to Aurora.

That obnoxious gif hurts my eyes more than all the salt.

Wasn't my intention to post clickbait. I have no control over what you click on. I'll adjust the title of this post (if I can) to be a little less inflammatory. Seems like a good idea.

I'm trying my best to ignore comment's on this thread (but I'm only human)

It was my intent to; rant a little about how people can't seem to respect others wishes on the internet, and to thank Steve.

Your idea is solid however.

There's scattered praise and thanks all over the various C# bug threads, patch notes and discussion posts.

I'll look into finding links to them all (this one included) and starting said thread.
