You're going to bubble sort a database with a potential of 308 billion items?

Methinks you missed the [sarcasm] tags ;)

Gee...

...and I was going to create an Access database that would hold 1B systems with up to 17 planets (with up to 17 moons) in a single flat file.

Then, to save disk space, I'll do away with any indexing and just bubble sort it for any info I need.

And here's a link to a catalog with nearly a billion stars. Download isn't supported (200 GB??!!), but you might be able to get access to it by contacting them. Speaking of access, please don't try to put a billion stars into an Access table. It's just not meant for that sort of volume.  :)

Cool find. I had it working in Firefox, although the interface was a bit clunky, so maybe that's where it's been designed for Chrome.

Also found a couple of links that address your second point. The first is a list of some stars used to calibrate Hubble, apparently. This is the link: http://gsss.stsci.edu/Catalogs/GSPC/GSPC2/gspc24_catalog.txt
And here's a page describing the data format: http://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/Cat?II/272

I found out about this new Google project here:  http://spacer.pamhoffman.com/learn-your-way-around-the-cosmic-neighborhood/

You need chrome to view it.  I'm still looking for the database they use.  I think the list could be very useful in Aurora.  Especially if the list can chunk-a-blocked into Steve's database.
