Ships of the Terran Federation Navy

These are designs I am using in my current "Earth Ascendant" game.   I used SM to provide 300000 research points and had 40 labs at start with some extra pop on Earth.  Other than adding a few advancements right off I researched the rest.

First warships:

Sloops California Class, fast and long ranged with their Consort Class Escort Sloops.  These were my first ships starting.
These operate in Patrol Squadrons of 4 California Class and 2 Consort Class.  2 Squadrons currently on duty.

Here are my mid-level warships.  I am currently at what I believe is the high-end of the mid tech era.

My Tribal class DDGs are designed for supplimental firepower when assigned to CA or CV squadrons.   They operate in groups of
4 (as all my ASM ships do) with 2 County Class DEs as escorts.

The Constitution Class Cruiser is the overall heavy hitter in my current fleet prior to the introduction in the future of the Lion Class
Battlecruiser.    There inital salvo fire is sufficent to take down most NPR DD and lighter ships I encounter at long range.  Since the
NPRs seem to specialize in ECM I have specialized in ECCM to counter this and usually outrange his weapons.

if those are dedicated escorts, they probably dont need the jump drives~~

Probably would've been more efficient to make a Jump Tender with one big jump drive rather than make every ship jump capable on it's own with different size drives. That way you could make the warships smaller or keep the size and cram in more offensive capability.

They work really well when organized in squadrons of 4 ASM and 2 AMM or 4/4 for the CAs.   I have had no losses so far in warships at all
(but have lost 4 squadrons of exploration ships) and have destroyed over 20 NPR 1000/9200/18400 ton ships and 2 18400 ton OWPs in
7 different system battles.  I rather like all my ships having jump capacity as long as they all have about the same range.

The addition of usually a comparible number of box launchers with regular launchers can allow for a more devestating inital salvo, especially
with 4 ship groups firing.  My size 9, 15, and 20 missiles have armored warheads and can stand the inital PD missile or energy/gunfire.

Here is the Discovery B class exploration ship class.  I have added a size 3 buoy launcher and a single size 1 PD missile.  I found it more
effective than a CWIS and if moving in groups of 4 can fend off up to a 21 missile salvo but unfortunatly operating singly they are more
likely to be overwhelmed by ASM fire but even a single ship has beaten down a 21 missile salvo before exhausting is small magazine.  The
Discovery C version may be larger in the future with 4 PD missile launchers to cut down on losses.

The Firestorm's speed is questionable. It's barely higher than your own tracking speed for point defense weapons.  It should be more like the Fire Ant - sacrifice some of that Agility for more engine. :)

I also think the TBMHAWK's range is questionable. At your tech, you should be able to get a lot more range out of a MIRV weapon. 

Finally, the seperation range is short. It is likely against any foe with AMM defenses that your carrier missiles will be destroyed by AMMs before launching their payloads.

thanks!  One reason i have not used them heavily yet (except for the S-9 version) is that I am still tinkering with range, speed, and
seperation.  I am thinking of just using FireAnts (which is a new design) in greater quantity rather than the older Firestorm missile
sub-munition.   Also changing the seperation range to 2m km as to overwhelm last minute defences.  Also the carrier is armored to
withstand 1-2 hits by size 1 weapons.   My standard S-9 Nike missile (single warhead) has a single armored addition and works well
in 4 ship salvos to overwhelm OWP defences and the FireAnt should do even better as a suppresion weapon.

Thats strange.  I had thought I had changed the seperation range based on notes i made but when i try to change it on the design
screen it always resets to 150,000 miles nommater what mirv design i use after its researched...
