Gameplay Bug: 5 seconds, No Info?
« on: May 24, 2011, 10:44:30 AM »
Why is the game progressing at 5 second intervals, while no events describing why are notated in the events?

No not in SM Mode, I'll try that, though I shouldn't have to.   SM mode is cheating.

OK, so someone's fighting someone else.   . . . seriously? This could go on for awhile.

No, SM mode is additional options & information.  It is intended for EXACTLY the situation you are currently in - something is happening that your empire doesn't know about 'in character' but you, as the player, may wish to.

I watched the combat in SM mode.   In other games, something like this would be calculated by stats vs stats, rather than played out in 5 second rounds.

Aurora doesn't differentiate between NPR and player races; consequently, it is an even playing field for areas like R&D and combat.  The rules that apply to you apply to the NPRs (well mostly, there are a few exceptions).

Do you mean SM mode or Designer mode? SM Mode allows you to do a few extra things but it shouldn't allow you to watch a combat that you couldn't see as one of the players.

yes it does, even if probably it's unintended.

if you go from the event updates screen to an sm event, it let you trough, zoom on the event and conveniently change your race to one with such visibility

You should never be able to change to Precursors or Invaders (the two races fighting) by only using SM mode - they aren't "players" in the sense that Steve mentioned when he said "that you couldn't see as one of the players".  In fact, you shouldn't be able to change race (ctrl-r) to any computer-controlled race - you should still only see human-controlled races on the ctrl-r screen.  And if the selected race doesn't have any sensors in the system, then (I don't think that) you should see any ships on that system's F3 map - you might see explosions, but that should be about it....

IIRC its possible on the events log in SM mode if you flip back & forward between "Combat" & "Firing/Damage Only" for events in the current interval only.  I cant verify this at the moment as I just restarted a campaign on the new patch & its a case of "Im Western, Nicht Neues" at the moment
