This is probably not the right place for this, but I couldn't find anywhere that I thought it fit better. I've noticed the forums being quite slow the last several days, more than they were previously. Takes 1-2 minutes to switch pages, and I can't imagine that's friendly for new people/visitors.
Anybody know any more about this?

I'd noticed some last night, but chalked it up to not having rebooted in a week or so. I'll look into it.

I can confirm the slowdowns, and that is happening regardless of the platform I use. After using three computers, and rebooting two just to make sure there was no perceptible difference in loading speeds. No difference either being logged in or not, on Mozilla or Internet Explorer.

I put in a ticket with the host. Outside of the support hardware and software which I have no control over, there was an update to the SMF forum software about a week ago.
As a side, that update is the last one they will do for the 1.x line. So it's time to contemplate updating to SMF2.

Yeah I've been seeing the slowdown too over the last couple days, this happens periodically so I figured it would go away after a while.

Snails on Valium would be party animals to this. ;D The last days I wanted to write something, but then stepped back because I could not get a message preview (essential in my case) even after waiting 30 minutes. Today I figured out that I can get such preview by clicking on Re:[thread], but for 2 minutes again.

I noticed this too, but for days I thought it was my just the wifi hating in my iphone or e-book I've been on since my laptop crashed. In related news it was the godawful resolution of the ebook and not being able to get wine running that finally pushed me to reinstall windows.
-
Yeah it's been getting worse for me day by day now. Hope this gets resolved soon.

It actually is getting slightly better, at the beginning of the week and middle of last week took several minutes to load a page, now it takes about 30 sec. and sometimes near instant (about 1/10th of the time).

I sent my webhost's sales people an email last night outlining the issue (throttling because I hit 2% cpu/memory), my requirements for the bandwidth, email accts, storage, etc; and how long I've been their customer (7 years) along with a note saying if they can't help me, let me know so I can start shopping.
This morning, everything seems okay... ???

It's still very slow from where I'm sitting.
-
It's improved a little on my end but still much slower than any other site. I would also like to say thanks for the quick initial reply to the OP and for trying to fix this.
-
I'm still waiting on a reply from their sales team. And the sales teams of a couple of other sites.
I may have to shift to a VPS type plan, which is about 5x what I'm paying now ($25/month compared to $5/month). And I shudder to imagine moving the data here over to a new host.

Forum is extremly slow for me now, hardly possible to use at all.
Let us know if you need financial assistance for a faster / more reliable new host Erik and we will contribute!

In case that you really set your mind to move, could you please post a warning here a couple days before? :) I have some text that I would like to save up, just in case.

It's not a matter of wanting to, it's more of a need to. If the site is not moved to a new plan/host, then the slowdowns will persist. And that benefits no one in the long run.
I am leaning to a new plan with the current host, which (in theory) should make the site move seamless. But, yes. I will give you all a warning before I move.

I wouldn't say it is impossible to use, but I do have time to play a game of solitaire while waiting for the next page to load..... ;D
(And sad to say, that is only a slight exageration....)

I have a new theory that the forum is not actually slow, but is only submitting data in pulses at certain intervals. I recognized that if I press another button directly after a page loaded, it usually loads that next page instantly too, without any delay, so there is a window.
No idea if this is helpful.

So the forum is getting interrupts? Maybe the sub pulse length is wrong, it's probably from the kitchen bots spamming the forum with sensor requests.
