Astra Imperia Community Game
« on: April 15, 2014, 02:18:19 PM »
With the start of Pancoption's game and the new battle mat I have, I was thinking about starting an Astra Imperia game on here.

I would suggest that we do a single system start, but if people interested would prefer a multi system start (ie each faction in a different system) that can be done.

So right now I would like to see how many people would be interested in playing. If you do not have the rule book please talk to Erik Luken on here as it is his game. Right now he is interested in playing it and I would like a few others to join before working out more. There probably won't be a multi player faction set up but if we get a lot of people we might do that.

Awesome. So that is two people, I would like to double that before we start.

Apparently only two people are joining because most people on the forum feel that a lack of familiarity with Astra Imperia would bode poorly for them in a game. I will leave this up until Tuesday evening and then I will start preparing the game for however many people are joining.

For anyone who is on the fence I would be willing to help anyone who feels they need it and the rulebook is really complete.

I'd play assuming it doesn't require a huge time investment, I have no idea of the rules, but that can be picked up, I just can't spend hours a week on it. If that isn't required then count me in.

Depending on how much freedom is granted in the initial setup, that can take a healthy chunk of time. If there is little freedom, then the player setup will be fairly light. The SM setup will be much more substantial. And vice versa. More freedom = more player investment at the start.

The start up will take awhile but after that only battles and refits to ships should take very long. I will be creating all the systems but I would like the players to create their ship types. I can do the battles by myself or the players can send me orders for that, I will leave it up to the players to decide.

While I will continue to accept new players through tomorrow (Tuesday night) I would like to get the following information from the people who have currently signed up.

Firstly I would like a list of the top three places you would like to claim as your homeworld, the choices will be in a list in the following post.

Secondly I would like a top three list of nations you wish your new nation is from, choices will again be the following post. This is to give both a flavor to names and to give me an idea of how to set up the history which will deviate from canon in the late 2100s or early 2200s.

Thirdly I would like you to look at Chapters  30, 31 and 33 of the rule book, they are the chapters on Campaigns, Race Generation, and Research. In chapter 31 I would like you to look over page 70, I will do the rest of the race generation. Page 70 deals with creating government and tells you how many Research Points you start off with. If you do not claim Earth I would like you to set up a government and pick your starting 5,000 Research points.

For the new players I recommend putting 3,150 of your points into the following techs; Physics I, Construction I, Construction II, Electronics I, Fission I, FTL I, Engine Tech I, Metallurgy, Troop Tech I, and Sensor I. With those you will be set up decently although you will not have combat capable ships.

I didn't make it clear but I would like those answers PMed to me.

Here is the list of planets that can be claimed, disclaimer: some of these are better than others either for size of population they can hold and/or how minerally rich they are and I am not ordering them in any way to give those answers away.

Earth
Mars
Io
Europa
Ganymede
Callisto
Himalia
Elara
Ananke
Tethys
Dione
Titan
Iapetus
Calypso
Prometheus
Titania
Oberon
Larissa
Charybdis
Charon

And the list of nations you can pick from are as follows

North American Federation
Commonwealth of Greater Europe
The Middle Kingdom
Russia
Saharan Commonwealth
Republic of Africa
Republica de Bolivar
Pacific Federation
Terran Confederation (for anyone who claims Earth)

Just FYI. Page 90 (book page, not PDF page), Troop tech II is not required for Armor units. That is a leftover from a previous edit. All troop types are available at Troop Tech I. Troop Tech II provides +1 Defense.
