« on: August 08, 2016, 01:02:50 PM »
Notes: This is the summary of a battle involving the UN fleet and Spoilers Star Swarm

So do not read this if you don't want to be spoiled by them.
@Sheb your guy gets a staring role.

This will be multi-part as there are several engagements that take place.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Hello Cedets - I am speaking at the earth academy, and this is being broadcast to the Mars Academy.  Today we will go over the largest engagment that the UN Navy has been involved in, the Battle of Proxima Centauri, with the unknown and hostile aliens that we refer to as Centari's. (Star Swarm )

This battle was a series of engagements with the Centari's.     First we will go over the UNN Stephen Decatur under the CO Lt. Commander Roger Al-Shebi first encounter with the Centari's.

The UNN Stephen Decatur was a S-Class Scout.   For those nobs, the S-class is used to explore new systems, and to work as a tender for Bargle and Discovery class Scouts for the Scout service.   The Decatur was the 4th of the class, and placed under the command of Roger Al-Shebi, the longest serving Lt. Commander in the fleet.   He is a experienced officer that has served in rolls including the HQ survey office, C.O. of the UNN Atlantis (Discovery Class) missile bases, and was the C.O. of the Wombat 007 missile fighter before being tapped as the commander of the Decatur.

Him and his crew where the first to explore the Alpha Centauri system, and then after completing that mission, was sent to explore the Jump Gate discovered by the UNN Bargle Science ship.   It used the Flur method to activate it and found itself in the Proxima Centarui system, with a matching gate on the other side.   Quick survey showed that the Proxima system was rich in survey targets and could be the home of a number of Titan class marginal colony locations.  Due to the fact that it had a working gate system, The UN fleet began preparations to begin settlement activities as the closure of mars and Luna to settlement has lead to high demand for new colonies.

The UNN Stephen Decaturwas in orbit over Proxima III when it detected a unknown active sensor pinging.   Roger Al-Shebi immediately ordered a return to the jumpgate and informed UN high command that it had made a encounter with a unknown spacecraft.  the craft did not respond to hails.   While the Decatur was able to outspeed the sensor craft, at 20 million km from the Jumpgate, the Dacatur was engaged by unknown craft.  Due to the damage profile, Al-Shebi was able able to inform UN command that the they where being attacked by Meson guns.   The 2nd volley of the Centauri attack craft caused the engine to fail.   With the ship crippled Roger Al-Shebi ordered the scuttling of the ship, Roger Al-Shebi and 23 of his crew where able to get to lifepods.

This was the first loss of a ship of the UN Navy in it history.   All leave was canceled and the bulk of the UN fleet sortied to the Jump gate.   The UN was at War, and the UN Navy needed to secure Sol and take the war to the enemy.   The war had begun.

July 1 - Battle for lagrange point 1

Task Force Alpha entered the Proxima Centauri system with active sensors on.   No hostile forces where located in the first scans, so TGA moved to pick up the lifepods from the UNN Stephen Decatur.  (Note 1)  C.O. Roger Al-Shebi and 23 of his crew survived.  53 spacers died on the Decatur.

The survovors indicated that the ship that scanned their ship was located near the Lagrange point 1.   so the fleet left the wreck and moved to LP1.   about 2/3s of the way to the LP, Athrax-class sensors indicated 10 750 ton FACs rapidly closing on task group alpha.   at 10 million km, Task Force Alpha engaged the FACs with their anti-missile defensive rockets.   After firing 190 rockets each, the Athrax class cruisers had eliminated the threat.   The threat was eliminated 2 million KM from the force.

No sign of the large sensor ship was detected, so Task force alpha returned to Proxima Centauri-III to keep watch over the system.   (Note 3)

July 16 - with no sign of threat, Task Group Bravo, now ready with the last stragglers from Triton  refueled, plans to enter the system to hunt down any threats in the system.

July 17th.

Battle for Proxiama Centauri-III

Task force bravo was almost arrived when sensors detected a 60,000 ton vessel.   Both task forces gave chase.   Due to ECM the offensive ships had to close within 50 m KM before launching their Anti-ship missiles.   Task Force Alpha fired till the Sydney classes magazines where empty.   The fleet watched as the missiles slowly tracked the Alien ship. Of the salvos, 80 missiles hit home, causing 720 Standard units of damage.  There was no sign of damage, and sensors indicated twenty FACs headed to the fleets.

Task force alpha turned back to Proxima Centauri-III  to allow Task force Bravo to Join as a main battlefleet.   Quick discussion followed from the commanders, and the following choices where made.  (Note 4)

- The Sydney's detached to the Jump point, due to their magazines being empty.
- The command of the main Task force fell to Captain Fang of the UNN Republic as  Rear Admiral Cori Wayner flagship was withdrawing.
- The fleet would engage the FACs, then the mothership.

The Jaspers - being designed as anti-FAC/Fighter ships, engaged the FACs as soon as they where in range, the Athrax joining in at 10m km.   Then came the waiting game.  The missiles fly out to the targets, and the fleet could only watch as the FACs closed in.

20 MKM - 20 FACs
15 MKM - 20 FACs
10 MKM - 19 FACs
Jasper Classes withdrawl for lack of ammo
7 MKM - 18 FACSs - 5 Athrax classes leave for out of ammo
6 MKM - 15 FACs
5 MKM - 12 FACs
4 MKM - 9 FACS
3 MKM - 8 FACS

Captain Fang made the choice to turn her fleet to run to Proxima Centauri - III to give her missile batteries more time.   The Republic Class warmed up their Mesons as the fleet felt that they might face close quarters combat.

2 MKM - 7 FACs
1 MKM - 6 FACs
900k KM - 5 FACS
800k KM - 3 FACS
400k KM - 2 FACS - begin to retreat.

Note 5

The Battle fleet returned to chase the 60,000 ship.   Soon all 15 Lenin's locked on to the ship.  Each volley consisted of 120 Warhog missiles, causing 1080 damage if all impact.   Two volleys later the threat was eliminated.

Losses UNN

UNN Stephen Decatur - 53 dead

Losses Centarui

1 60,000 ton mother ship
30 750 ton FACs

---------------------------------

Expenditure - UN

2,600 SpaceImp AMMs
960 Warhog ASMs

----------------------------------

As you can see, the UN Navy won the battle at a massive cost in Missiles.  We estimate it might take ten years to fully replace the over 3,000 missiles expended.
This will have drimatic impact on the UN Navy.  Some missile boat designs will be delayed or canceled due to the lack of missiles to arm them.   The UNN may very well build System Defense boats that use beam weapons due this shortage.  We will also have to review our Anti-FAC plans, as it too expensive to use AMMs to sandpaper them to death.

Medals earned

- All officers earned the Combat badge
- Roger Al-Shebi earned the "survivor" medal.
-Captain Fang Earned the Mars Medal, the third highest award of the UN Navy.

In addition, Al-Shebi court martial did not reprimand him for the loss of his ship.  However he now serves on a fuel gather.   So cedets, do not lose your ships.
