The only thing that should time you out is if you spend 2 hours (I think) composing a message.

More like 5 or 10 minutes, dealing with a printer.

I just checked some settings.

Unlimited sessions. Session timeout 4 hours. Edit post timeout 2 hours.

As far as I can tell, there's nothing here that should log you out after 5-10 minutes.

Well, I don't know what is doing it, but it happened again this morning (in my time zone).  Same pattern, shifted windows to deal with a printer, shifted back to find I was logged out, somehow.

As a posible clue, I notice that I am NOT on the list of users in the last 24 hours, as I would expect if the mystical logout had proceeded normally.  ??

So then, as a diagnostic, I logged off normally, and looked at the "last 24 hours" list.  I still don't seem to be there?!?

And now that I have logged in for the third time (to post the above message), suddenly I AM in the list of recently active users.  This is confusing.

I'm stumped. :(

I'm not sure what governs the Most Recent User list. I can look into it, but that's mostly a cosmetic thing. Is it possible something on your end is logging you out?

At least possible, since I am using a college computer.  The server here has not done this before, so I don't THINK it is likely, since we did not see the problem for the first two+ years I have been using this board.  Of course fome of that time was on the prior service on your end.

Additonal data point:  It did NOT log me off when I spent some time attending to the MS Word and printer today.

OK, it happened again this morning.  I don't know if it is the length of time (longer today as I read Steve's latest), or what.

MY problem is that i have to log in manually every time. I poke the 'log me in automatically' button every time too. So i've been lurking as a guest most of the time, unless i find something to comment on.

The auto-login relies on cookies. So if you have anything that eats them, that would be the culprit.

Whatever it is that eats the cookie eats ONLY the cookie from here. Anyplace else on the web produces cookies by the dozens. Other places that require logins don't present me with this problem.
