( Answered ) Engines and Speed
« on: January 23, 2017, 02:21:39 PM »
Ok I realize this is a Silly Questions. But here they are
when you shut down a Engine do you stop right there, or do you Slowly slow down?
Can you set a Speed Like 40Km/s and without firing the engines again How long can you keep that Speed?
Sence this is not Starfire ( no Bubble of Energy surrounding the ship, that when the Bubble is gone speed drops to what it was before the Bubble was there) How does the Thrust Work? Does the Particle Density Slow the Ship? Does Gravity of other System Body's Slow/speed up/Change the Ships speed?

Please only serious Answers No Smart ass ones
It has been a While so Please Be Patient with me and My Questions

Instant (within the span of 5 seconds). You cannot maintain speed without the engines running.
Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, but set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

So there is No Way to Coast thru A System like a Glider Soars thru the Sky??

are the Lower Level Engines less Likely to be Spotted at Long to Medium Distances?

Passive Sensors Have a Better Chance to Spot Some thing a Long way away, Ecm helps Lessen the Chance to be Spotted. Would Lower Level Engines On a Ship Make it Less or More Likely to be Detected?

You may reduce the speed of a Task Group if that is a concern; of course there's also the thermal reduction tech line.

How this works may not be completely intuitive though:
A 6000km/s beam TG moving at 3000km/s because it's following a TG of that speed will have its full TH output and use 6000km/s for combat calculations, but halve its fuel burning rate (so total range is the same).
Reducing its TG speed to 3000km/s manually doesn't affect fuel consumption, reduces its thermal footprint, but also means it'll be easier to hit and may have a harder time to hit fast targets.

Also ECM doesn't protect you from being spotted, only makes it harder to target you with weapons after you are spotted.
