tracking speed
« on: January 05, 2018, 12:32:46 PM »
Hi,

I'm not entirely sure why my fighters, equipped with a 2 twin gauss turrets get a tracking speed modifier of 13% against incoming missiles, whereas frigates, equipped with the same exact weapons (but more) get 51%. Is it coming from crew training? They both have a fire control of  the same quality, TS wise.

EDIT: rereading my post, I see that my fighters don't have turret, only gauss canons with a TS of 10.000 compared to the frigates turrets, at 12.000. So rephrasing the question, are the 2000 km/s difference really accounting for the huge difference in hit probability?

How fast were the fighters flying? Unturreted weapons have a tracking speed of max(racial_targeting, current_speed). If the fighters were part of a task group flying at <3000 km/s then their tracking would be reduced all the way down to the racial base 3000 km/s.

0.96 modified base * 3000_tracking / ~19000_missile = ~15% hit chance.

One work around is to have the fighters in a separate squadron following their protectee at full speed, but be warned that that burns fuel very fast.

I thought about that, and you hit the post! They were escorting the TG moving slowly at a speed of 2000 km/S (CVE are not fast in the Confederacy).
Learn a thing everyday! I can't even relieve from command the CVE commander, she died with her ship...  :D
