Title: Jump drive rating and squadron order
Post by: sidew on July 04, 2011, 04:40:17 PM
I'm bit puzzled  about the rating and the size of jump drives.

from events log I have this message
Code: [Select]
17th June 2049 06:20:01,Sol,Logistic #1 cannot carry out its squadron transit order as at least one ship is larger than the ship with the highest jump rating
The Logistic fleet is composed of these two ship: a freighter and a jump tender:
freighter:
Code: [Select]
Aurora MkII class Freighter 19700 tons     128 Crew     203 BP      TCS 394  TH 188  EM 0
477 km/s     Armour 1-64     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/5/0/0     Damage Control 2     PPV 0
Maintenance Capacity 13 MSP
Cargo 15000

Hitachi NT CE-1 Engine E0.9 (3)    Power 62.5    Fuel Use 9%    Armour 0    Exp 1%
Fuel Capacity 50 000 Litres    Range 50.7 billion km   (1231 days at full power)

Alenia Spazio EM Detection Sensor EM1-5 (1)     Sensitivity 5     Detect Strength 1000: 5m km

This ship is classed as a commercial vessel for maintenance purposes

jump tender:
Code: [Select]
Hen class Jump Tender 13000 tons     168 Crew     249.2 BP      TCS 260  TH 98  EM 0
376 km/s    JR 2-25     Armour 1-49     Shields 0-0     Sensors 5/5/0/0     Damage Control 1     PPV 0
Maintenance Capacity 12 MSP

Kuat Drive Yard JC25K-C Jump Drive     Max Ship Size 25000 tons    Distance 25k km     Squadron Size 2
GE-Hitachi Nuclear Pulse CE-1 E0.76 (1)    Power 97.5    Fuel Use 7.6%    Armour 0    Exp 1%
Fuel Capacity 50 000 Litres    Range 90.9 billion km   (2797 days at full power)

Raytheon IR Sensor TH1-5 (1)     Sensitivity 5     Detect Signature 1000: 5m km
Alenia Spazio EM Detection Sensor EM1-5 (1)     Sensitivity 5     Detect Strength 1000: 5m km

This ship is classed as a commercial vessel for maintenance purposes

Both are less than 25000t for the max size permitted from jump engine, but i din't yet understand where is my error?

The jump ship has to be at least as large as any accompanying vessels, not just have a big enough jump engine.

Fill the jump tender up with fuel and maintenance spaces and then set it as a fuel and supply ship - kills two birds with one stone: 1. takes your tonnage up to required level and also lets the tender act as a supply ship, since I guess it will be relatively static.

Also, those ships are SLOW ASS. They move painfully slow and the freighter has only 15000 cargo capacity. Fix that.

25000 cargo capacity is the undocumented 'minimum standard' in case you were wondering.

The max size a jump tender can move is the size of the ship OR the max rating of the drive, whichever is smaller.

So in your case, with a tender that is 13,000 tons, the max size of the ships it can escort is 13,000.  Having a 25k max jump drive on a 13k ton tender, still can only escort ships of a max 13k tons.  So make the tender bigger.  And man those are slow, nuclear pulse drives are painful.

The problem isn't the nuclear pulse. I have them too. But I use 16 of them on my ships :P

Yes, but the campaign started from pre-transnewtonian era. . .  and they doesn't have larger shipyard at the time when the Aurora-class was build ( with conventional engines, then refitted with nuclear thermo in Aurora II-class)

Maybe it is a good idea. . .
I'll refit the class  with more fuel/maintenance storages. . . .
