Troop Transport / combat drop
« on: November 03, 2013, 02:54:39 AM »
Hi,

Combat drop module needing a military ship, I'm considering a design for that. Should I put a regular troop transport, so that long transit time don't reduce the battalion efficiency? Any good idea to suggest? I remember some of you are using a modular system with hangars for assault boats? Is it possible to transfer while in space the troop from the hosting ship to the assault boat?

My own approach is to have a (or several) rather large, commercial troop transports, each able to carry an entire division plus some replacement battalions. Each TT is accompanied by one or two Assault Transports, faster, heavily armored and capable of carrying a brigade.
The TTs do the moving, the ATs do the dropping

And yes, you can transfer troops from the TT to the AT in space. IIRC, the cargo handling rating of the TT is, what determines the speed of the transfer.
