How to TG train small combat crafts?
« on: November 22, 2013, 05:17:17 AM »
smaller crafts, that are designed with only combat in mind, have only few hours worth of fuel on board, smallish amounts of maintenance supplies, if any at all, and expected deployment time of 0.1 month(which is the minimum).

Those "shuttles" are pretty good for in-system defence, as they can get quickly to where they are needed from planetary bases and finish combat before they exceed their logistical durability (maintenance supplies, deployment time, fuel).

But in order to make them effective in combat they should be TG-trained. And here logistical durability becomes a real bottleneck.
while it is easy to somewhat overcome fuel bottleneck by pairing them with a slow tanker, it is much harder not to lose valuable craft without a maintenance facility, or with minimal one. Or to train effectively when deployment time is much smaller then required training time.

So how do you guys overcome it? how do you train your FACs and planet-based fighters?

I build escort Carriers, cheap slow Carriers that are used to deploy them to other systems and also used for training.

When small craft are inside hangars they get trained fully without any consumtion of fuel or any breakdowns.

Small craft docked on a ship will train when the whole taskforce is given a taskforce training order.  I have seen that with my pinnaces.

So if you have a carrier just send the carrier out to train and its flight group will auto train.

For PDC based FACs you are out of luck you have to give them a standard "task force training order" after launching them, monitor the situation and return them to base when their crew endurance is up (likely that will be exhausted before their fuel is). I have PDC based pinnaces but they do not train even though the PDCs themselves do.
