population surrendered
« on: February 05, 2010, 03:35:15 PM »
Well my only contact was the Civ race, and i was unable to make any type of diplomatic moves towards them, even sending a diplomacy team and the DP and communication were N/A on the diplomacy screen, and then i got a message saying that the population of earth has surrendered and so have all the ships that were orbiting earth (which was all of them, very early in game) so i turns out the Civs became hostile and i don't know why. No i did not send any minerals via mass driver by mistake.

Were you blowing up civie ships?  :-) Did they somehow build a ship or PDC with active sensors?  Not being able to do diplomacy is correct - you shouldn't need to.

If you want to recover your game, one thing you could do is restore from your last save before the surrender (see the Save FAQ), then go into SM mode and bump up their attitude towards in the same way as if you'd Footfalled them into the stone age.

No i didn't blow up any ships, i don't even know how to, and they might built something with active sensors, but what difference does that make?

On blowing up ships: You shoot them with your weapons. :-)

So your saying that i cannot make any commercial ships with active sensors for fear that my civilians will use those designs?

(I just realized how much confusing calling civilians "Civs" could be >_>)

No, because if you try to make a commercial ship with active sensors it won't be a commercial design anymore - it will be a military design, which the civies shouldn't try to use.  (Say that 10 times fast :-) )

There's something going on to upset the civies, and it's probably a bug (unless you're blowing up their ships or targetting human populations) - I was just throwing anything I could think of out there that might be causing it.  Civies shouldn't be able to get their hands on active sensors, OTOH they shouldn't be building PDC either, which they've been doing in 4.9.

Actually, really small active sensors can be put on civilian designs. I'm not sure what the cutoff point is, but my salvager design has a small active sensor for locating wrecks, and it still counts as civilian.

Is it possible that you don't have enough defenses on Earth?

I know that leaving a population undefended can cause unrest. I don't know if it can cause them to revolt though.

You're not accidentally bombarding one of your populations with mineral packets are you?  You need a mass driver on the target pop to catch them or you are dropping large, fast moving rocks on their heads and they don't like it   :D

I already said i wasn't. I feel it's the active sensors thing. Maybe a PDC had them, or the small ones made some trouble.

Did you put active sensors on any of the classes that the civies have used?
