My 6.0 Ship Designs & Questions

Hi I am trying to start a 6.0 campaign and I have questions:

My question is the FUEL Situation...     There is a limited fuel for each vessel...    This means that each fleet needs a Tanker for longer deployments right?

Yep. In actuality, given the new fuel situation you seem to have about the right amount of fuel, though you might wanna equalize that a little. As well, unless you're going for extended deployments, you're actually a bit over on the maintenance life; aim for about 2-3 years and you'll be good.

First, a warning: INCOMING WALL OF TEXT

One general thing, I have to ask why you have em and thermal sensors on EVERYTHING. It's not like they stack together to create one super-sensor; drop all passive sensors on everything except combat ships(and even then, generally you only have them on dedicated sensor ships), and maybe your gravsurvey ships.

Next what I said about maintenance life for combat ships does NOT apply to survey ships, since they WILL be on extended deployments. As well, I'd aim for an intended deployment time of at least one-and-a-half to two years, since it might take at least that long to completely survey a single system. As well, you'll need to up the fuel to at least 100 days(unless you plan on dedicated tanker support for your scouts, of course). You can help make the space by dropping the armor and shields, since they AREN'T combat ships(if you do want a bit of survivability for them in case of...unforeseen accidents, I suggest an armor level of 2 max). As well, drop all military components off the geosurvey ships and make it completely commercial; you can get some pretty small ships this way. Since gravsurvey ships are always military, keeping the extra sensors is generally accepted on them, as I said. Overall, the idea behind survey ships are cheap, replaceable long range scouts that you won't really get hurt by losing if you come across a civ that resent your intrusion into their space.

Now, I have to ask if you actually do have a missile ship design somewhere, because unless I'm reading those designs wrong, I don't see a missile tube on any one of them, so having a collier is pretty pointless. As well, for magneto-plasma tech, those missiles are pretty pathetic, and those amms(that's what I'm assuming the Yavuzes to be, BTW; if they're just micro ASMS excuse me) have way too much range; the typical amm engages missiles at around 2-3 mil, which is about 1/10th the range of your amms. if you drop the range, you can put more to engines and agility for an awesome interceptor that creates a missile wall.  In fact, looking at those missiles, I'm wondering what engine power tech you have, and what power modifier you're using. With missiles, typically you ALWAYS go max power(only exceptions is booster motors for the first stage of a MIRV missile). Even if you only have 3x missile power(remember missile engines go double your current power tech), you SHOULD have slightly better missiles than that!(not that I know for sure, since my personal rule of thumb is to never mess with missiles until I get at LEAST 2x power mod).

As for that jump ship, you don't really need squadron jump radius. Make a jump engine to the correct ship size with the max squadron size, and you'll be fine. As well, see if you can get this design completely commercial; it's not hard, I do it myself. My Triremes are all commercial ships with no maintenance, so more room for fuel. Though, my triremes are all 20k ton ships and also act as tankers, so how applicable that is to you is, well, up to you. Though, i will say a ship smaller than the jump tender can always use that jump tender, but you'll need to design a larger jump tender if you decide to use larger ships, so I cay design a jump ship for the largest size you're maintenance facilities can handle. Even if you never build a ship that size, you would still have the space for your tender to be other things, like mine is also a tanker.

Before I can comment on your combat ships, I need to know what role you have planned for those, though one general thing to note is if they are to work together in a fleet, you need to equalize speed

While not knowing the reasons why the OP does design it this way. I do place EM and Thermal sensors on the majority of my ships, I do this for two main reasons the first being that I tend to use ships alone and detached quite a lot of the time and like having generalized ships. Also if the Thermal sensor on the dedicated sensor ship is taken down there are always back ups. The second main reason is more for RP as in my mind I always feel like ships should have basic sensor systems like that, it's also why I always design flaws into ships so that combat is so much more fun, when you know you don't have the perfect setup because of the last games of learning.

I'd agree almost entirely on this, survey ships tend to have long deployments and are disposable vessels. If you want to engineer some defenses onto them, a small CIWS or Armour 2 is generally the best way to go, but to keep survey ships alive speed is generally your best friend.

I'd tend to agree with this, the missiles seem to be a little weak for your general tech level, and yeah the Yavuz' seems to be the AMM. The range on them could do with being a bit shorter and the speed a bit higher. The rest of the missiles seem to be ok, but all of them are perhaps a little slow.


Stuff that hasn't been mentioned, your Maint life should be around double your deployment time - just in case of accidents - and I think your designation for Cruiser and Destroyer seem a little out, the destroyer seems like it could do with perhaps a few less lasers, and perhaps 1-2 missile tubes for AMM's. The cruiser should generally be your main combatant and should have some PD (with the lasers) but should have long range strike capacity with missile tubes for ASM operations.

     So,  My missiles should not have the same maxium range of the sensors on my ships? ???    So, say should they have what 35%, 40%. 50%?
      I am right now removing most of the passive sensors or down grading them on my ships and I have created a Sensor/Scout class vessel.  I will repost some of these later...

None of the ships you posted had missile launchers, or sensors for the ASM missiles you posted, so without seeing the other two components I can't really answer that question.

Question:  How can I do the Table Text Box....   I've selected the insert table button but nothing has happened.       Also, I have found that for destroyers I need a seperate Jump Ship "Belknap Class" to get what I think is the appropriate weapons packages....
