Fighter Engines?
« on: November 20, 2012, 02:19:35 PM »
I'm a bit unclear on fighter engines and I am seeing multiple answers in different places and would like to try and get the real answer.

Is a fighter engine simply a very small engine that one designs and the ship itself simply needs to be under 500 tons OR is there a separate research path for fighter sized engines?

Thanks all!

A fighter is now, since 6.0, any military craft of 500 tons or less. It does not need an engine, so you can now build defence sattellites with your fighter factories.

While not classified as fighters for maintainance purposes, commercial designs of 500 tons and less can also be built using fighter factories.

A fighter engine, is simply any engine that will fit into a fighter design, there is no longer a differentiation between fighter engines and ship engines.

However, there did used to be a differentiation until recently (update 6.00) which might be where the confusion comes from.
