Yes, Mesons are not affected by an atmosphere, but IIRC, they can´t be used for bombardement, only to take out PDCs.

This is my recollection as well.  IIRC beams can target ground forces, but when fired a message to the effect that precession weapons have no effect on dispursed targets.

As i recall mesons can be used through atmosphere, so at least as far as not damaging the enviroment they would be the cleanest option, there's still going to be infrastructure damaged though.

Well I recall that in one of my games I used ships with railguns to bombard a planet, their only negative effect is that they increase the dust level in the atmosphere.

edit:
Of course i think it was on a planet with little or no atmosphere and a bunch of precursor robots.

Or use orbital terraformers to add toxic gas to the enviroment that you can remove later.

Enhnanced Radiation Warheads are in the game so you can neutron bomb the alien race if you so choose.

Weird, I did search it and didn't find the topic! My bad then I guess :)

key work bombardment and only search suggestions.  You will find a host of topics over the years on the subject.

A bit of searching on the subject of planetary bombardment would have found that this has been discussed several times in the past.  The short answer is that "clean" weapons are deliberately not in Aurora.  Steve is not likely to change this aspect of the game.

Hello everyone!

Now I don't pretend to say that I am an expert on Aurora as I consider myself a newbie still but I have a lot of experience from other games and I was doing a lot of reading on the forums. From that I propose a thing that is missing in Aurora (unless there is a secret tech somewhere) which is "clean" weapons for either the AI or the player that he could use in the game. What I propose is the following:

Line of warheads that uses radiation that destroys living matter (much like the concept of neutronium bomb) but that does not destroy the installations or lowers the habitability of the planet for the invader. I understand this might be quite destructive and unbalanced so these weapons could have very high price (10x or 20x bigger than ”normal” missiles) and would have to be used in close proximity of the planet. When used against a ship they would have little or no effect due to the armor that shields away the cosmic radiation.

Biological weapons could also be introduced into the game having similar effect as a “clean” bomb but over long periods. The viruses could be countered by special “hospital” ships or by creating a specialized building (working much like the tracking stations/star ports) that would be compared to the level of developed virus.

Please discuss! :)
