I'm trying to remember which of the fiction stories had that engineer brigade reactivating alien ruins. That one engineer was in all of them, survived dozens of explosions, etc and finally salvaged a cache. This wasn't the main thread of the story, but just an amusing side piece that I absolutely loved.

Anyone know which of the stories that was in?

The Earth Defense Authority campaign by IanD. Starting in chapter 5, ending around chapter 8 or 9.

The story of Captain Matthews, the Engineer, is one of my favourites on this board.
