I just want to say that this game has me in awe at it's fun complexity and depth. I am continually having 'ah-ha' moments in the game. It's great fun! I have not had this much 'fun' with a game in many years! Thank you for the time and effort you put into such a project. Great work!

Hi Steve
i am a new player too. I read the thread on the wargamer forum and i must say that your game is really outstanding. I have looked for a complex 4x game for ages. My brain is exploding at the moment every time i start the game because it it so complex but it is really satisfiable. And i didn´t find the the installation difficult. Don´t know why people have problems with it. I can even play it on my 1680 x 945 notebook when i use ResizeEnableRunner.
Keep up the good work.
Frank
BTW. What have the leader personality traits for an effect? Is there a limit of how many i can give to a leader and why should i use a negative trait?

Hi, welcome to the game.
Aurora is designed with writing after-action reports and fiction in mind and the leader personality traits are for that purpose only. With so many officers in the game it makes writing after-action reports easier if each officer has a mini-personaility that you could use if you can't be bothered inventing one. Or, you can record your own for future reference. Negative traits can be used to make the character a little more interesting but they have no gameplay effect.

They are for story writing purposes only, I belive. As Steves said in the above post, he created Aurora primarily to help in writing, so adding some personality traits makes a lot of sense, even if it doesn´t directely influence the game (of course, you can use those traits in-game too, if you roleplay your game. For example, a risk-taker admiral will probably order his fleet to boldly attack, were a cautious admiral will hold back much more).
Edit: Ok, I give up

Cool!
I figured that if I started a game creation last night and set up all the tech and ships that you'd pump out a new version of the DB soon.
Feeling a bit twitchy now: both happy and irked....

Steve...
Thanks for the kind words regarding wargamer. Aurora is right up our alley and I don't think I just speak for myself when I say we're thrilled you are participating in our conversations and becoming a part of the community.
As I've said, Aurora is a very "special" game, and I don't think I've ever said that about any game...EVER.
Please keep working on it...personally speaking, I'll follow you and Aurora through the gates of hell!

And this is one of the reasons why Aurora caught my interest (aside from the fact that someone said: "Aurora is Dwarf Fortress in space!"). I just wrestled my way (in a fun way) through the Six Powers Campaign by Kurt and now I'm gonna finish reading the tutorials and another fiction campaign before I "brave the plunge". But already I'm planning on bringing fire and sword to the infide ... I mean, bring peace and justice to galaxy. :)

Actually, reading the various writeups is probably a good way to get a feeling for how aurora works. The only problem with this approach is that almost all of the writeups are for older versions, so as long as you understand that and that things have likely changed since they were written, you'll do fine.

Aye, I realised most of the write-ups were 3.x or 4.0 and that there have been some changes. I'm currently working my way through the mechanics and tutorial section. Still haven't actually played the game yet, but that won't be long now.
*sigh* Why did I discover this game during my exams? I should be studying International Politics, not Turret Tracking Speed, Trans-Newtonian Physics and Survey Bouys. ... Maybe I should sneak in a few Aurora references for my exam tomorrow. *feral grin*

Okay so do I d/l this patch then 4.82 or can I just d/l 4.82?

get v4.80 first so you get the new database and then v4.82
