Obviously you are playing the 'insert western democracy here' style of foreign policy <smile>
Didn't eastern dictatorships do the exact same thing, though? I speak of Soviet Russia and China, rather.

Supplying both sides in a proxy war while you maintain trade with them both? You magnificent bastard.

It is a valid concern about your allies becoming your future enemy. . .  But on the other hand it'd make for a funner game for you. :)

1) will my friendly NPR build copies of the designs I have given them?
If the ship contains tech that they have not researched then no they can not build them.

2) If i give them dropships or dropships with battalions on board will the use these to capture colonies and ships?
Don't know if you can give them loaded dropships.  You could give it a try and see what happens.  Let us know the results if you do.

4) i'm have more advance tech them my puppet NPR will they disassemble some of the ships for the tech and catch-up to me?
In the past the answer was a no.  Currently npr's will use salvagers on wrecks so it is possible.  If one of your ships is destroyed in combat they will probably want to salvage it.

5) also i was thinking of supplying light fighters and beam FAC's to the other faction to weaken both NPR',s will they use exactly the same designs against each other
This works just fine.  Battles will tend to be expensive as they are using matching equipment with no range/speed advantages.

I would say you need to be able to handle at least a 3:1 advantage from your puppet in a personal war. You have no idea how they will use your designs or the tech that built them. So you could find an open chink in your fleet armour, the only counter to this is being able to absorb the error and still win a fight.

Even if you're not worried about your own ships being used against you, you still are possibly building up a rival.  Remember, the easier the win is against your common enemy, the better prepared your "friend" will be when he turns on you.

I've been building a decent fleet for my self  ;)
the only ship i gifted above 2000 tons (corvette in my fleets) was 1 15,000 jump cruiser other than that my fleets can handle the light ships I have given them although a mass attack by the missile fighters i have given them would empty my empire of AMM's.  i just wish i could track the vessels I given them so i can have a exact battle report & review to note what needs to redesigned for the next gen.

"3) how badly will this backfire on me? IMPORTANT"
Well, how well has it worked in real life?

If I were you, I'd be building a fleet to fight your proxy ally, because if history has taught us anything, they'll be fighting you shortly after they're done with this current war.

I have recently started a proxy war with a neighboring NPR who i'm diplomatic neutral and have mutual trade relations with.  I'm doing this by building and transferring cheap corvettes, FAC's and large fighters to a friendly NPR who is at war with them,I have a few questions about my strategy:

1) will my friendly NPR build copies of the designs I have given them?

2) If i give them dropships or dropships with battalions on board will the use these to capture colonies and ships?

3) how badly will this backfire on me? IMPORTANT

4) i'm have more advance tech them my puppet NPR will they disassemble some of the ships for the tech and catch-up to me?

5) also i was thinking of supplying light fighters and beam FAC's to the other faction to weaken both NPR',s will they use exactly the same designs against each other?
