What are the points marked "LP" in a system I'm exploring?

I just jumped into a new system, and there a bunch of points marked 'LP' in orbit around planets.   What are these points? What are they good for? Search, of course, turned up nothing -- I think I would need more characters.

Hello, those are Lagrange Points.

Basically, they act as jump points inside a single system.
