Title: Glorious Battle!
Post by: Theodidactus on July 13, 2014, 01:02:48 AM
using only relatively slow-firing beam weapons and absolutely impeccable timing, I managed to destroy a swarm queen  at 411 shields in 3 salvos (I had picked at it with torpedo fire first). My fleet is built around massive batteries of slow-firing beam weapons, many of them plasma carronades, so this required jumping in to within 10,000 km of the villainess, the most impressive thing about this feat was that it was done without giving the abomination a chance to shoot at all. My first two shots were fired JUST out of range, with Turbolaser fire, which stripped the shields away to nothing, then I punched up the fleet speed to the max and charged, firing plasma carronades full blast, and some remaining lasers. This disabled all its weapons and the creature resorted to ramming ineffectually. I'd post a text file if I could figure out how to generate one.

How much total ship mass did you bring to the fight?

3 laser frigates = 21,000 tons
2 battleships = 50,000 tons
2 destroyer escorts = 24,000 tons
2 battlecruisers = 50,000 tons

so about 140,000 tons in the melee.
there was also a carrier, some missle cruisers, and escorts, but they were well out of range.

That sounds like a well earned fair fight then. :)

It was supposed to be a lot easier. My incompetent senior officers misfired several volleys of torpedo, all out of synch. Previous concordance administrations would have had them shot but fortunately a more tolerant man is in power.

Interesting. Did you actually apply those 'mood reactions' that suited your current leaders character traits?
Seems like a good idea anyway.
