Curiosity About Music
« on: February 15, 2010, 02:13:38 PM »
I very recently installed this and have been loving it, but I realized there was no music, or at least none I could find. So I just started up a youtube list of sci fi music I'd compiled and  set it to random and was on my merry way. However I realized when the main theme of starcraft came up that starcraft music goes perfectly with this game. So I was wondering, given that there isn't already music and I'm just blind, what do you all fancy listening to while exploring the great void?

While vanquishing my foes I usually listen to OST's from Moon and Solaris backed up by great bands of Carbon Based Lifeforms and Aes Dana.

CBL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLC4-nNalP0
Aes Dana: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIEbZs3hv1M
Solaris OST: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2S698Cs3aM
Moon OST: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n07IsFsqhQ

You can safely try also OST's from Haegemonia (old quasi 4X game, really simplistic but great explosions) and another movie soundtrack from Clint Mansell: Fountain, or if you're feeling tribal and Sf-ish: great Homeworld  :)

You can assign a musical theme to each race in your game. First you need to create a Music sub-directory off the installation directory and place any mp3 files you want to use in there. Then open the Race window and use the Select Tune button to select an Mp3 file from that directory. When that race becomes active, the theme tune will play.

There is something right about having no sound. Just the quietness of space.

In space, no one can hear you scream at your I-pod.

Brian Eno, who writes ambient music, did a CD that musically personifies each of the equatorial stars.
This is the one for "Altair"

In general, he's good for non-combat music...when you're taking your first steps on an alien world or orbiting a dying star 50 million light years away.
My Theodidactus, now I see that you are excessively simple of mind and more gullible than most. The Crystal Sphere you seek cannot be found in nature, look about you...wander the whole cosmos, and you will find nothing but the clear sweet breezes of the great ethereal ocean enclosed not by any bound

I like to listen to "Mission Control". It's an internet radio station that plays the Apollo mission logs with some ambient music in the background. Great mix, imho.
