Officer Auto-Assignment
« on: January 06, 2016, 03:45:51 PM »
Is there a way to change the leader auto-assignment priority sequence?

The default has fighters just below military ships that need a Rank 2 officers and above everything else.  I would like to have some system defence ships with R1 officer requirements, something for junior officers to cut their teeth on, but I can't because that falls below fighters in the priority list so all my officers ignore them and jump into fighters.

I'd like to change it so fighters are lowest priority.  Can this be done or am I stuck trying to work around it?

Did you change the minimum rank requirement on the ship design screen?

Same place you can set a maximum rank too... Set both to R1.

Yes.   I've just double checked and R1 fighters get priority over R1 warships.

I've also tried adjusting the Priority box next to the minimum rank requirement and that makes no difference at all.

Set fighters to R2?

Same behaviour.  R2 Fighters get filled before R2 warships.  Priority number makes no difference.

What is going on is that Aurora looks for what would gain the most benefit due to special skills. Since regular warships don't need special skills, it looks for what fighters need first because they benefit from skills. Since most officers seem to have a decently high fighter combat bonus, it will assign those with that bonus to fighters before it looks at priority. Look at your officers that are being auto-assigned into fighters, is this the case?

You could always create a additional rank then reshuffle everything around :/

I use fighters in my games quite a lot and I always add one or two ranks to help deal with this problem.

Erik and MarcAFK

A couple of questions :-
1) In the ship design screen where can you specify the maximum rank of the vessel commander ? All I have is a box for setting the minimum rank required and Class Priority points.

2) How does one go about adding further ranks into the officer hierarchy. I can find no way to do this.

Erik - as you are aware at present trying to open Aurora and navigating the menus is a right pain with much lag and internal server error messages  occurring - is there any timescale from the server host as to when these might be fixed ?

I think they may be on something, you can't set a maximum just a minimum rank. At least, thats as far as I know since I only play on reduced height windows which cuts some things off.

In your officers window, click add (right under the rank list).

83athom,

Thanks , i was looking at the wrong screen to change the ranks.

I am using full height windows at 1920 X 1080 and cannot find how the specify the maximum rank as mentioned by others.

I used to suffer from this sort of problem until I devoted time to properly lay out my rank requirements, this means my ships now often do not have an officer unless my academy is large enough to support the ship numbers. Here is currently how I set up my ship ranks.

Quote
Lieutenant
1 Colony Ship
2 Freighter
3 Fuel Harvester
4 Fuel Transport
5 Hospital Ship
6 Ordinance Transport
7 Salvager
8 Tug
9 Construction Ship
10 Drydock
11 Defensive Base
12 Defence Platform
13 Prison Shuttle
14 Fighter
15 Bomber

Lieutenant Commander
1 Recon
2 Survey Shuttle
3 Grav Survey Shuttle
4 Support Vessel
5 Assault Shuttle

Commander
1 Troop Transport
2 Corvette
3 Escort
4 science
5 cruiser

Captain
1 Destroyer
2 Deep Space

Commodore
1 Command Ship

As I get further into a game my ship needs change or expand and so I alter the txt file with this list. Then anytime I make a new game I just used to as a quick reference sheet for new designs.

Almost but no.  It does assign officers to fighters on the basis of fighter combat bonus.  But even after running out of officers with fighter combat bonus, it still keeps assigning officers to fighters.  I have officers with good crew training ratings and zero fighter combat bonus sitting in fighters, while all the R1 regular warships have no-one assigned.

I hadn't thought of adding a rank.   But I'm not sure of the advantage of doing it.   Don't you still end up with every R1 officer in a fighter, developing Fighter Combat Bonus rather than something more useful?

Not sure if you are missing his point or not.

I *think* what Rich is saying is that you make your fighters R1. Everything else is R2 or higher.
