Title: Forum adding spaces after periods
Post by: DeMatt on June 21, 2019, 05:38:40 PM
. . .
3. 14159.
One space after this, please.  Now, two after this one.   Is that correct. ?
One space after this, please! Now, two after this one!  Is that correct!?

The forum is adding spaces after every period I put into my posts, if they're not in a CODE block.   I do not know why.

Because you don't have enough approved posts yet to be confirmed as not a spambot.

The effect will go away on its own eventually.

. . . so it's intended to break URIs?  That. . .  that's. . .  gaaah!  Primitive!  Uneducated!

The minimum definition for a URI is
Code: [Select]
scheme:path
, no periods necessary!  Putting spaces after colons would make more sense!  If you wanted to mess with URLs specifically, then putting spaces before/after forward slashes would do even better!

But everybody delineates sentences with periods, and a large chunk of the world uses periods as decimals, and no small portion of the world uses periods as thousands separators!  Messing with periods messes with ALL OF THAT!

As Father Tim said, it goes away after a while.

It also changes http to hxxp and puts a space after a colon.

It's not meant to be super scientific or accurate. It munges urls (the main objective) and as a side effect adds an extra space after a period.
