Automation Technology
« on: August 17, 2016, 12:22:52 AM »
I think that there should be a technology branch which allows you to increasingly automate components and planetary facilities so that they require less personnel. For instance, the lowest tier might cut down on requirements by 10% while higher tier would allow huge vessels to essentially be unmanned except for a bridge crew.

Going higher in the tree should unlock an AI technology branch which not only cut down on needed people but also gives a slew of bonuses to research rates, population growth, construction rate, basically everything, but of course going down this path too far could be hazardous for your health  ;) .

Given the new mechanics on crew space and deployment time I agree that having automation that reduces crew costs would be interesting. Should be a good trade off between making components more expensive / possibly a bit larger v reducing crew requirements and in turn allowing for longer deployment with few crew quarters.

I agree the More Automation the Less crew Needed, However the More Automation the More it Costs. Also Have a Limit on how Much automation there is. 05%/10/15/20/25/30 all the way to 75%. Some things will Benefit from the Automation, Like the Speed on Missile Reloads( every 10% of Automation reduces the reload time by 02%, No more than a 10% reduction). rearming in Hangers at 01%. But every level of Automation adds 04% to Self repairs( lack of Man/Woman Power( lack of People to do the Work))

well that is My Nickle Added to this topic. Agree or Disagree. i put the Idea out there.

This would stack pretty hilariously with your racial training rating. The first thing I'd do when I get high enough automation technology is to bump that up to max.

I always have it bumped upto max, I don't build enough ships to be concerned about having enough crew.

A decent idea, something like this would have stood me in good stead in my recent Honorverse game. It's hard to do Manticoran designs when the kind of ship you're building isn't automated and so the number of crew is higher than the canon design.
