maintenance for commercial ships
« on: September 27, 2012, 10:59:08 AM »
Hi,

I think i've understood now how the maintenance system for military ships works (and the necessity to put maintenance bays on your ship designs ;D), but how does it work for commercial ships.  I've got a few commercial designs (freighter, colonist, geo survey) and they don't have the failure percentages, and although they have a Max repair value, you can't add maintenance bays to them.  Do they also suffer from maintenance problems, if yes, how do i tackle them ?

TIA

Ok, i think i found it in the tutorial about commercial shipping.  Commercial ships don't get maintenance failures, good to know  ;)

... you can't add maintenance bays to them

*Engineering spaces* do the actual work and prevent failures, maintenance bays just store additional supplies. At least I think that's how it works.

That's correct. The engineering spaces are like workshops where things are maintained / repaired on the go on ships. The storage bays are like cargo spaces where spare parts are kept.

Commercial ships can still carry/transfer spare parts with engineering spaces.
