Some questions on Gauss cannons

-Do they need beam, or missile fire control?
-Do they need a powerplant?

Gauss cannon use the beam fire control, and they do not need any power plant.  

Their up side is with enough reasearch they will have incredible rate of fire, but the down side is they only do 1 point of damage, and they are large (6hs) for a full size model.  Against missiles they are a great last line of point defense if they are turret mounted.

Yes, I was planning on using them for missile defense on area defense cruisers.
