Those Who Must Endure Chapter 3 - Exile
« on: May 08, 2016, 06:44:28 PM »
Miura, Sundiver 01:

########################## BEGIN TRANSMISSION ##############################
FROM: Miura Takuya, Squadron Leader of the Sundivers
TO: IMPERIAL HIGH COMMAND
PRIORITY: CLEARANCE XX1

The following is the report of our engagement with the LAUNCHER PLATFORMS designated OSA and ZHDANOV.

Their armor is thick. It took us 5 minutes firing away at just one of them, to even break the armor and start seeing results. They have no point defense, and they could not fire their missiles at us. They never even tried abandoning their ship, and we did not truly realize why, until we landed our TSFs on the carrier and heard the news.

They fire missiles of unknown size, 20,000 kilometer speed, and 10 units of yield.

They use several dozen engines, each a 160 thermal signature, of a total of 1920. I suspect their fuel economy and long term plan must be worse than ours.

They have 2 types of sensors, one a Strength 360, resolution 97, and one Strength 216, resolution 20. The Pusle strength on those lasers is so strong, that I suspect that their EM sensitivity technology is not very advanced. Thus, they never saw us coming. Once my Sundiver detachment linked up with the Eclipse detachment, it was all over. We picked them off one by one, and they never even got close to being saved by their escort that they foolishly advanced forwards.

Once we struck the magazines, we realized they did not have any missiles left and had expended all their ammunition.

But we failed to complete our mission as it was implied to us. Our mission was to destroy these ships, but it was implied to do so before they cause any more major damage. But the Shiranui is not to blame. Even if it was twice as fast, we would not have made it in time. No, in the opinion of this Shosa, the error was in our judgement when High Command decided to place the screen so close to Earth. If they had decided to place the screen 100 or 200 million kilometers out from where it actually was, this might have been prevented. If they had taken more aggressive action and decided to pursue these ships before they got so close, this could've been prevented. But this Shosa also fully understands that no one could have seen these events unfold like they did, and I do not place this blame on anyone.

However, even with all this in mind, I cannot understand why they designed their missile fire control to outrange their sensors, or why they decided to change targets so drastically.

Though I could list how we destroyed 80,000 tons of enemy hardware, it pales in comparison to our one and only casualty of this engagement:

Earth.

KR:

"Mother, I am ready to launch."

"Roger that, Ame. Launch in 5."

"Copy, launch in 5. See you later, Mother."

"Good hunting."

"Ame, Oscar Mike."

The iTSF Ame, was a type 00c variant of the Takemikazuchi. The height and glory of IJ technology. It was larger and bulkier than the standard TSF, hence the 'i', which stands for Improved. Due to the technology and power of the machine itself, it is considered nigh sacred, and as such, only the Royal Guard, and the Shogun herself, would employ it. Though, the Shiranui was making steps to bridge the gap of power between the Takemikazuchi and itself, it still had a long way to go. Even Mitsurugi's wish was for a TSF to eventually outperform the Takemikazuchi. The Takemikazuchi would become a symbol of unity and perseverance, and the Shiranui would be the military asset that everyone had access to.

I did not share that desire.

"Hurricane, 30 seconds out from the improved Terminator bogeys, designated Neustrashimy. Weapons hot."

"Guns up, sun's up." Came the reply from my second in command, Togo Rei, in control of the Shiranui assigned to our squadron.

We made contact, and immediately displayed the power between us and the USSR. The fight was so short that I felt cheated for even launching.

Off-Topic: show

"Mother, targets destroyed. What about the lifepods?"

"Standby." A pause, "Ignore them."

"Yeah, let the bastards suffocate." Togo chirped in, and I nodded my head in silent agreement.

###############################################################################

"They shot down the Hoshi." One of the ensigns said, on board the mothership.

"The Hoshi? That's a Zuikaku, no?" Another one replied.

"Aa, I wonder how they managed that."

"The Hoshi took damage in the initial engagement, no? It's possible they whittled it down."

"Mmm, the commander was rescued, along with 92 other survivors. The Kido and Susanowo also took some heavy damage. The whole Task Group will need some serious repairs."

"What about the IJN?"

"Not a single hit on them. Those guys are as sharp as ever."

"It's a good thi--"

I moved out of range to hear them, and sat down in the mess hall. Someone was about to approach me when the screen flickered on, displaying the image of the Shogun, who was on board the mothership. It looked like she was addressing the fleets, considering that Earth most likely cannot hear the transmission due to the dust.

"For 70 years we have fought a losing war against the BETA. There is not one among you, or in the entire world, who did not feel the torment of our impending extermination. But we have endured, and emerged victorious. We had thought that our struggle for survival ended 10 years ago, when we defeated the BETA on Pluto, and expelled them from the Solar system- we had thought that a new world order will rise, to steer us into the future of safety, and unity."

She paused.

"But we were wrong. When the USSR was allowed to settle Alaska due to losing their homeland, we thought that the regime of the old powers was toppled. But it seems that was not the case- it was with our blood, and our loved ones, that we liberated their homelands. And now they turned their weapons against us. I am hereby authorizing the deployment of G-Bombs, to exterminate the USSR to the last man. It has become abundantly clear that the so called 'new world order' that will steer us into the future, can be none other than us. We must be the ones to suffer, and we must be the ones to endure. We will no longer allow ourselves to be taken advantage of, and betrayed by our trusting nature. It is time we showed the old world who wields true power, and they may fall in line behind us, or stand against us and meet the same fate as the USSR."

MM:

"Shogun, they have surrendered."

I nodded slowly. It was to be expected. By not taking the First Secretary's threat, and instead bombing him myself, he had no other choice.

The temperature of Earth has dropped to an almost -20 degrees Celsius. Once the water freezes, the temperature will drop even further. A nuclear ice age awaits us in the near future, and if that was not bad enough, the radiation has reached a near global lethality affect. The fallout from this war has spread as far as the Hawaii islands, and continues due east and west, every day. The only country that won't be affected is Iceland. But considering that all the fish will glow in the dark, not dying to radiation as a direct consequence of it, is a small, if any at all, consolation.

Surprisingly, the EU and USA did not criticize our actions harshly. They too, so their representatives claimed, were planning a Gravity attack on the USSR, having received similar threats as we have. Instead of discussing how we may abandon Earth and settle Luna or Mars until the Earth is habitable again, they ushered forward a plan to artificially add greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere, to warm the planet once more.

As for the radiation? Supposedly, they will use specially designed infrastructure, much like we would use on Luna, to protect ourselves from the cosmic and solar radiation-- only in this case, it would protect them from our man-made disaster.

I cannot say I approve of the plan. It is not a matter of cost, but rather ... "mono no aware". It means 'Pathos of Everything', a quiet schadenfreude in regards to our transiency. Perhaps in the grand scheme of things, with the BETA invasion of Earth, destiny has in some way decided to either drive us extinct, or force us to embrace the stars in eternal solitude.

In the meantime, the Empire is expanding it's military ability with the new PB-X01 meson cannon, replacing the loadout of the Shiranui second, in a variant now known as Shiranui Third. Kagero will replace the Zuikaku destroyer- it's loadout swapped for meson cannons.

We must find a new star, and a new home, away from Earth and the chains that bind us there. We cannot be as they, the self-destructive species that arrogantly grasped the stars. The universe has been very clear on this. We must evolve or die. We must endure.

I will edit this post later, but this chapter will be a simultaneous retelling from different POVs, of the events from March 12th, up to mid April.

Indeed. When I saw that the USSR had like... 500 CS on the planet, I was like 'Bomb it to hell'. I think that's like... 100 divisions. I am gonna take a more direct approach with making sure I stay allied with the rest, for at least a little bit, while I explore the galaxy further. I went and SM explored one of the jump points and there's quite a few surprises very close, but it is literally the last place I will check, so hopefully interesting things will happen before then.
