Infinite resources
« on: April 02, 2016, 09:15:56 AM »
Hello everyone!

So aurora is an awesome game, it's depth is unrivalled by any other 4x game.
Simply put,  economy, although realistic, forces change which is all-in-all a good thing.  But for the sake of simplicity and turtle players, can you make it an option where resources available are infinite and accessibility decreases the more it is mined as a balancing issue? That way a player can make mistakes in aurora, due to the game lacking a save-mechanic, everything is final just like in real-life, the safety infinite resources would give can greatly help a more casual/novice player that's just learning the game before they attempt the realistic scenario?

TLDR: Option to make available resources infinite but accessibility decreases up to minimum as it is mined

Thanks, Filippe999(Nine Hundred and Ninety Nine).

Try enabling SM mode, hitting F9, and setting the mineral resources on your homeworld to a suitably large number (say 10mil each, at 1 accessibility).  You're unlikely to run through it all, and if you do you can simply repeat this process.

That could solve the problem temporarily, but unless i could also do the same to every NPR empire out there it'd be cheating.
Having it as a game creation choice would make it less of a cheat and more of a game mechanic.

Not sure why you would want to do that for an NPR, I am guessing that it would just cause them to do less actual exploring as they have the resources they need already. Also you stated that you wanted this idea to help a human player be able to learn the game with more forgiving mistakes, as such again an NPR would have no need of such things. Using SM mode as a cheat tool is subjective as the way Aurora works means one aliens cheating is another aliens story tool.

Also if you are struggling with way that every single click you make has permanent consequences then look into using the backup tool in the install section. It lets you set yourself a save function based on a timer with as many save copies as you like.

One more thing - Steve has requested that suggestions go in the official thread, not in standalone threads.  You can read the "Where should I post" thread in FAQ for details.

Have fun,
