I'd like to get my players opinion of how the game should start, I usually do conventional starts as you get some good interaction in the race for the starting tech, but if you want we can do a TN start instead.

Also real stars or no? I don't care myself.

NPRs: I thought I'd turn invaders off and leave the other two on, that can change if you guys want it too, thoughts?

I was going to go with overhauls required, realistic promotions, inexperienced fleet penalties, and no jump gates, but that can change too if the players are in agreement.

As for starting year I don't particularly care, I can throw together a bit of worldbuilding fiction for pretty much anything if I have to, so whatever you guys want.

non-real stars, sol system start.
I could go either way with TN or non-TN start
I agree with everything else.

I ususally do TN starts because conventional starts tend to be a little boring for the first couple years - at least when I play in 'singleplayer'. But I guess that won't apply here, so I'm fine with either conventional or TN =)
I'm also fine with no real stars; Gives us nebulae and black holes \o/

Got nothing to say against the other settings you mentioned, though would there be a starting NPR or not? So far I've most often played without an NPR somewhere out of Sol since I like exploring stuff myself instead of the NPR wandering around - and I think we have plenty of empires on Earth to keep this interesting.

That's fair, plus it will reduce the chance of that NPR finding swarm or something and messing with the game by getting into fights.

no real stars, but what about giving a "sol system" to each player, but in different galactical places?
i never tried a pre-tn start, but am willing to try it out.
(and it would be nice)

i was thinking about leaving Rp's (roleplayings) and result of actions public, but the sending of orders (if people want) private through pms.
or a mix of the two or similar.
no invaders for the moment.
the rest is fine by me
people die all the time, it's not a problem.
it is if you're sending them to die.
i'm not. they just need to learn to be better.

I don't think it's even possible to create multiple Sol systems - but doing so would take all the fun player interaction out of the start and delay it until much later (and it wouldn't make much sense story wise, either - parallel realities linked by JPs?).

While I'm not participating in the role play of an NPR i thought I'd just add my two cents. When the game kicks off there should be a thread created for the roleplay of all the empires public relations. So deals treaties and any other roleplay fluff can be in a sort of interaction with others thread.

Otherwise I am following the progress with interest. :)

I could like it if all who are playing would start a thread here [...]
Now there's two posts with their empires underneath it - Thread or post now? xD

I just incorporated Korea into my faction's background and controled area. I hadn't yet seen anyone 'claiming' it yet so I hope not to ruin anyone's planning =) If so, please tell me and we'll work something out!

was thinking about a couple of ways to RP's this...
one would be a topic per factions, were we could "write" up what happened (if we wish to share it with the others)
another would be a topic called something like "round table" were we all can speak like if we were the ambassadors/diplomatic responsibles for peace (like un committee)
people die all the time, it's not a problem.
it is if you're sending them to die.
i'm not. they just need to learn to be better.

I was wondering - How is communication between systems handled? Will we be 'instantly aware' of what happens in another system - implying a means to transport message either through empty space or JPs - or will we need couriers?
We're still far from needing this, but once we reach out for other systems it'd be an important thing to know ahead, since we might have to design and plan differently. And in case that messages need to be relayed but we're in charge of our faction, will we even be informed if a ship vanishes or anything unplanned happened to it before its report is due, or will we be able to 'command' it and only have to pay attention to what the command back at Earth knows of and what it doesn't?
