Warp Drive

Hey,

I would love to see an engine can transport you over long distances somewhat quickly, but with side effects:
  • You can't move again for a certain period of time.
  • These drives do nothing in combat, because they take time to charge up.
This would emulate a warp drive, or a ship-made worm hole if you design it like that.  Really big ships need something to let them move around without a TUG attached.  To use, you'd select a special "Warp" task assignment, and select a waypoint (made/natural like planets) to jump to.  Appear in a random location within 50k of that waypoint.  To move normally you'd have to also have regular engines.

This is almost necessary for ships like The Enterprise, which was over 4 Million tons.

Thanks for reading!

Aurora had something similar before, called Hyperdrive. Due to issues it was removed and Steve has not fixed the issues so it remains something not in the game.

Also, Steve has requested that we post suggestions in the official thread (so he can use it as a filing cabinet), rather than in standalone threads.  See "Where should I post" FAQ for more....

Thanks,
John
