Heh. My latest LONG range Surveillance Cruiser. I was getting rather tired of being ambushed.
This little darlin' enters a system, moves slowly near the planets, and if it picks nothing up on
Thermals or EM, actives it's actives. Check out the ranges for the passives and active. :)
I only had to use the actives once. After destroying a single Precurser ship, I wanted to make
sure there were no other surprises. They are ENORMOUSLY expensive, however, so the two
heavy battlefleets each have one, and I have one in reserve should one of the strike fleets,
or survey fleets, require it's help. It works well, thank goodness, because I don't want to
build more of these. Pricier than a PDC. :)

For what they cost to build, they'd better be. :)
Each of the three sensors are the largest I could build, 50 hull spaces each.
Not enough room for weapons, which is OK because this is, basically, a
EWACS cruiser. It's the antenna size that really boosts the range, and
I maxed it on all three. As I said, you can build only a handful, depending
on your economy and wealth, but they are VERY useful for detecting ships
that would otherwise ambush your warships or survey squadrons.
I hope I can build another in a few years, but warp point defense bases
are a priority at the moment. :)

I decided to only use passives, so that I could fit everything on a light cruiser hull, and to make it cheaper. Because there is no actives, and of course because it isn't as advanced as yours, it is much cheaper. It is still more expensive than a comparable light cruiser, though.

Actually, that looks great. Being advanced is nice, but everything is much pricier.
I think I could design a smaller one along the lines of your ship. Maybe that would
be cheap enough to build for the Strike Fleets and their survey counterparts. :)
The idea was sound, but I do think I went a bit overboard with her. The Battlefleets
represent a substantial chunk of economic output, however, so keeping them in one
piece is rather important. :)

This is my current design that fills the same niche in my combat fleet:

This is a similar design to support my survey ships, the big difference is that I'm relying on passive detection:

Why does it carry missiles Kurt?
As far as I can see it has neither Launchers nor Magazines.

Willing to bet that listing is leftover from copying a missile armed design. Note that there is no listing of magazine capacity.

of course (Duh!) sorry, still a little groggy from jet lag - just back from Fiji

That's it, of course. This design is based on my original light cruiser design, and I forgot to remove the missile loadout.

Tell the truth...you wanted to see if we'd notice. ;)

The only critique I have is that you might see fit to lower the resolution, or else add a secondary lower-resolution sensor to detect smaller craft like those from the swarm at longer range.
