Fighter designs, how do you designs yours...
« on: January 06, 2011, 01:15:23 PM »
Well my carriers is packing 122 of these, newer been used :'( They are meant to go upclose with the enemy, some will bee killed but with 25 missiles each, doing 6 points of damage, I presume that most enemy ship will bee killed... Only problem is to get the fighters enough missiles >:( ;D

I use fighters that look scarily similar to Steves from his NATO vs Soviet Union Campaign AAR.

I generally have Strikefighters, Strikefighter Command Fighters (providing strikefighter sensor coverage), Recon (jump drive equipped), Early warning craft (extending the fleets sensor coverage) and Tankers to extend the Strikefighter range. I have 1 Command and 11 fighters per squadron (my smallest carrier carries two squadrons), at least 1 EW and Recon per carrier, and the tankers are only found on my bigger carriers.

I've never used the small missile approach, I figure they are going to get in close and so why not pack a heavier punch and hence using size 4 missiles. Using size 4 is also the standard size of missile used by my cruisers and everything below - this helps on the logistics of resupply. The idea that fighters can use Anti-missile Missiles on their size 1 rails to supplement missile defence has just never appealed to me, the fighters are my fleets offensive arm, so they should be out there, offending.

I'm not very experienced in Aurora (having only played 1 proper game as it were), but these guys did alright:

Me too. But my current tech lets me use much bigger than a size 4. :)

Fuel Capacity 10,000 Litres    Range 0.7 billion km   (11 hours at full power)

Size 10 Box Launcher (4)    Missile Size 10    Hangar Reload 75 minutes    MF Reload 12.5 hours
Missile Fire Control FC79-R100 (1)     Range 79.4m km    Resolution 100

Active Search Sensor MR39-R100 (1)     GPS 2800     Range 39.2m km    Resolution 100

Missile to hit chances are vs targets moving at 3000 km/s, 5000 km/s and 10,000 km/s

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes
This design is classed as a Fighter for production and combat purposes

This baby can fire 4 size 10s with a range of 78 million km. And my Harrington class CVs carry 20 of these. ^_-

I also have a similar strike group as Steve in his Soviet AAR:

One fleet carrier holds:
48x 250 ton fighters with 4x4 size missiles, organized into 4 squadrons.
4x 250 ton fire control fighters, implemented into the 4 squadrons
3x 800 ton recon FAC, which has much more sensor range and endurance than a fighter would have, and importantly with the same speed as the strike fighters. Recon is most essential so I thought I build that baby.

Code: [Select]
F-21A Sentinel class Recon Fighter    800 tons     68 Crew     520.7 BP      TCS 16  TH 44.8  EM 0
17500 km/s     Armour 1-7     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 0     PPV 0
Annual Failure Rate: 20%    IFR: 0.3%    Maint Capacity 102 MSP    Max Repair 294 MSP    Est Time: 1.35 Years

Kuznetsov NK-450 (1)    Power 280    Fuel Use 540%    Signature 44.8    Armour 2    Exp 90%
Fuel Capacity 80,000 Litres    Range 33.3 billion km   (22 days at full power)

Morgenrot Radar-S (1)     GPS 16800     Range 403.2m km    Resolution 100

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes

The engine is Internal Confinement tech.

Fun Fact: The minimum engine power of any ship engine in Aurora C# is 0.01. The maximum is 120000!
