--- The Longspear is a class of Beam Fighter which mounts a Strength-2 Particle Beam. The class suffers from poor endurance with only three days of fuel and life support. The Longspear Class also suffers from an overall low top speed, clocking in at a meager 4,003 km/s for it's 125 Ton Magneto-Plasma Engine. The craft's weapon and drive alone account for nearly all it's weight, with 75% of the total mass being dedicated to these systems. A further 25% of the ship's mass is dedicated to sensors, fuel and maintenance supplies. Currently I am unsure what, if any, role the Longspear might fulfill as the entire goal of the design was to fit a Particle Beam onto a Fighter-Sized vessel... and not much more than that. Improvements could be made by removing the EM and Thermal Passive Sensors, as they are included for Role-Play purposes; All ships in my current game require at least one of each type of passive sensor, each with a strength of at least one, if they mount any active sensor systems. CIWS and missile mounted sensors are excluded, if you were wondering.

--- This class is regarded as a Scout Fighter, but it is less of a fighter and more of scout. The Knife is so named due to the fact that it's sole armament, a meager twenty five ton Gauss Cannon, is the space-borne equivalent of a pocket knife: better than nothing, but only just. It's not all bad news with the Knife Class though as the craft's engine, while itself small, comprises a full third of the vessel's total weight. Likewise, while the ship's singular Gauss Cannon is as small as can be had, it accounts for a solid fifth of the mass of this ship. The Knife exhibits adequate speed for a fighter-sized ship, and despite the name is quite well-armed for it's size. A small sensors package and extremely short range limit the usefulness of this ship, a fact that is offset by it's ability to be housed in a Small Boat Bay.

--- I designed this ship to afford myself two things: a tiny scout for short range "go and see" missions, and a tiny PD ship for when I need just that little extra push. The Knife, ever true to it's name, manages to fulfill both of those those roles adequately. Like it's namesake, the Knife is a tool more than a weapon, and it's effectiveness depends just as much on when it's applied as how. That said, it's sensor suite is paltry, barely enough to justify it's designation as a "Scout" while it's armament is equally unfit for a "fighter". What sets this ship apart from either is that it has both functions all while being small and fast. It pays for this with range and capability, where a dedicated ship could be more effective in on role or the other for less mass, better range, more speed or all three. What makes the Knife useful is that it's all rolled into one, and if a navy has no need of that then this ship is just another Useless Rocket...

--- The Claymore Class is designated as an Assault Fighter, which is my equivalent of a Multi-Role Fighter. Flexible, adaptable and capable; the Claymore is armed with a 10cm Railgun and a single Box Launcher. The craft's 8,015km/s top speed is provided by a single 125-Ton Magneto-Plasma engine which itself accounts for 25% of the ship's overall mass. This engine has been further enhanced to output thrust equal to 200% compared to a Magneto-Plasma engine with equivalent mass. A sizable allocation of fuel still leaves the Claymore with a relatively short range despite the fact that the fuel alone composes more than 10% of the ship's weight. A comprehensive sensor and fire control package allows the Claymore to engage a variety of targets while eight tons of maintenance supplies help to keep it in the fight.

--- The Claymore ASM is a roughly thirteen ton missile with over nine tons of it's weight dedicated to it's warhead and propulsion system. One and quarter tons comprise the missile's dedicated maneuvering systems, while a further two and half tons is given over to fuel for the weapon's thirsty engines. The output of the propulsion system has been pushed to the absolute limit, generating thrust equal to an engine four times as large as itself. It is capable of out at striking targets from a comfortable range with modest accuracy and forms the principal armament of the Claymore Class Assault Fighter, with the craft's missile fire control and attending active sensor being geared for the engagement of ships massing six thousand two-hundred and fifty tons.

--- I designed this vessel to act as my mainstay fighter, to be deployed in nearly every role that a fighter could fulfill. Although I have intentions of deploying specialized fighter craft, I intend to have the Claymore form the backbone of my fighter corps. At the Magneto-Plasma tech level, this fighter could be considered quite slow if compared against other fighters, however it does enjoy a comfortable edge against enemy fighters at Ion tech and is still very capable of running down larger ships at equal tech level. The M-FCS, Active Sensor, and Box Launcher account for only ~14% of the vessel's cost, meaning it can be refitted as technology advances, or to mount systems better suited for Anti-Fighter work.

I very much like the mission and role description, perhaps even more than the actual stats! Thanks. If you fancy doing more classes, I certainly can learn from them.

That Knife fighter is pretty interesting. I've always designed fighters on the heavier end of the allowed tonnage due to technological restrictions. However I've finally survived long enough in a recent campaign to reach high enough tech levels that a smaller fighter might be practical. Additionally, my current best fighter design is a 500 ton gauss fighter, similar to your Knife.

Thanks for sharing!
