Title: celebrating 10 years on the forum!
Post by: Froggiest1982 on January 19, 2020, 09:28:10 PM
Hi all,

this Friday I am celebrating 10 years on Aurora and on this forum. As I have been enjoying my time with this amazing community and also glad to have seen a growth thanks to some youtube videos I would like to ask you a few questions:

1-How long have you been on the forum from?
2-Where are you from?
3-How did you know about Aurora?
4-How long did your epic save last for?
5-What do you play if you don't play Aurora?
6-What do you NOT play if you don't play Aurora?
7-What is that you are looking for in this 2020?

I'll fill mine and looking forward to more stories!

1- 10 years on Friday.
2- Italy, but I live in New Zealand.
3- It was a post from italianetworkgaming.com that got me here.
4- 1 year and a half, but I write a lot...I mean really a lot but the AAR's are for my personal enjoyment only.
5- It really depends as I don't get that much free time like before. I think a constant always been Football Manager but I chew a lot of paradox games.
6- Real-Time Strategy ( I prefer Turn-Based) and FPS (unless it's Arma III).
7- Sure I look forward to Aurora C# but I wish to get my hands on KSP 2.

4- Still going so far! We're setting up shop in several new systems and I've found my very first nebulae! Lvl 15! :o
5- Quite the eccletic mix, to be honest; Armored Core, Hearts of Iron Four, Xenonauts, X-Com (Firaxis Re-Make), War Thunder, Mechwarrior Online, MW2/3/4, Quake II, DOOM (the Og, not the remake) Duke Nukem, SC 2000... the list goes on and on.
6- The fiddle.
7- Just graduated a Pharmacy Technician two days ago, can't wait to get me some sweet, sweet income that ISN'T in the restaurant industry.

3-I'm not sure, I think it was a post on the honorverse's forum which lead me to the rigellian campaign diary, then Steve's starfire books, and Aurora.
4-No idea, IRL time or in-game time ?
5-Stellaris, Civ6, b attletech, and so on
6-RTS and FPS, I prefer time to think

This is a good idea.

1. Fours years almost to the date.
2. Denmark
3. I think it was Quill18's let's play that got me started.
4. Perhaps 70 or 80 years. I lost the save when I upgraded my computer, but I was almost ready to try a multi-faction game, by having one of the colonies declare independence.
5. Cataclysm DDA is a big one, but RPG's of various kinds is the bulk of it. Football Manager 16 was also a hit.
6. FPS and story-driven games.
7. Aurora C# and Cyberpunk 2077.

1 - 4 or 5 years maybe.
2 - Sweden
3 - Was actually thinking about making my own space strategy game and did a bit of googling around before starting to see if there was already  something similar. Found this, started playing, never got around to making my own because Steve had already done it for me. Which works out just fine, I have a lot more time for thinking out game concepts than for implementing them anyway.
4 - Not sure, but did get into the later stages of tech in one game.
5 - Always played the Civ series (even if I think they are a bit shallow nowadays), Paradox games, roguelikes, Project Zomboid.
6 - Played most kinds of games at some point, but not doing RTS, RPG any more or anything that smells like a ported mobile game.
7 - Getting back into shape by staying injury-free and prioritizing my training time better. In terms of games mainly Aurora C# (should it not be called 8.0 instead?) I plan out strategies/RP for my empire while lifting weights or running  ;D

1- Almost seven years...
2- Canada, Southern Québec, to be precise.
3- Wikipedia. I was playing Star Empire IV and I was unsatisfied. I looked for another 4X game and discovered this gem.
4- Probably 50-60 years game-time. What always gets me is the geometric progression of the 'Bad Guys.'
5- HOI4 and Children of a Dead Earth.
6- FPS and RTS games.
7- C# Aurora because it looks like the geometric growth of the 'Bad Guys' will be gone.

1. "Date Registered:July 30, 2011" whoa - next year I'll be celebrating my decade with Aurora!
2. Finland.
3. I'm pretty sure that somebody mentioned Aurora off-handedly on RPGCodex.net during a discussion about in-depth space strategy games.
4. My longest game in years was like 80+ but that was mostly a turtle game that happened in Sol for the majority of it and died shamefully through a DB issue. Most of my games are shorter as I try different concepts out.
5. Strategy games and RPGs mostly, combined with occasional action games.
6. Pretty sure I've tried all genres in existence, even visual novels.
7. C# Aurora of course!

4- Hmm, still going on, 89+ years and heating up.

6- ....
7- Aurora C# and having my sons move out... Or maybe not, they are nice to have around, but not when they take my beer... >:(

1-How long have you been on the forum from?

Since 2011, though I rarely posted until about a year ago - mostly just lurked and looked stuff up to answer questions.

2-Where are you from?

New York.  Lived and worked in Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia but have sinced settled back down in New York.

3-How did you know about Aurora?

I think I found out about it from some random forum post on Bay 12 when I was into Dwarf Fortress.

4-How long did your epic save last for?

About 40-50 years.  I never had good computers and the interrupt delay made my games too tedious to continue.

5-What do you play if you don't play Aurora?

Pretty much all the Paradox Interactive games.  Been having fun with Anno 1800 lately.

7-What is that you are looking for in this 2020?

Game wise?  Looking forward to Aurora C#, Kerbal Space 2.

6-What do you NOT play if you don't play Aurora?
Newest AAA trash from Ubisoft, EA or Activision. Multiplayer non fps games. I try to stay away from multiplayer fps games as they are absolute time wasters ( TF2, CSGO, COD etc ). I also dont play mobile trash or console games.

7-What is that you are looking for in this 2020?
