Shipyard additional eligible classes
« on: August 06, 2012, 09:33:16 PM »
I found a thread from about 5 years ago discussing the topic of being able to build multiple classes from one tooled shipyard.   Does anyone have any updated information regarding the requirements to be able to build ships of differing classes from the same tooled shipyard?

I know its not all about the BP of the ships as I have a 17700BP tug
Code: [Select]
Echos of Earth class Fleet Tug    286,200 tons     6070 Crew     17790.2 BP      TCS 5724  TH 45000  EM 0
7861 km/s     Armour 8-386     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 1     PPV 0
MSP 39    Max Repair 100 MSP
Tractor Beam

Internal Confinement Fusion Drive E0.48 (200)    Power 225    Fuel Use 4.8%    Signature 225    Armour 0    Exp 1%
Fuel Capacity 15,000,000 Litres    Range 1965.3 billion km   (2893 days at full power)

This design is classed as a Commercial Vessel for maintenance purposes

and a 2461BP group of cargo modules

Code: [Select]
Full Boxes class Freighter    262,600 tons     370 Crew     2461.4 BP      TCS 5252  TH 0  EM 0
1 km/s     Armour 5-365     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 1     PPV 0
MSP 6    Max Repair 10 MSP
Cargo 250000    Cargo Handling Multiplier 50

that are able to be built in the same yard if it is tooled up for my Echos class.  .  .   yet similar tonnage (and BP!) modules similar to my 'boxes for colonizing and orbital terraformers are not able to be built in the same yard.

Code: [Select]
Greener Pastures class Colony Ship    262,600 tons     1120 Crew     11961.4 BP      TCS 5252  TH 0  EM 0
1 km/s     Armour 5-365     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 1     PPV 0
MSP 28    Max Repair 10 MSP
Colonists 1000000    Cargo Handling Multiplier 50

This design is classed as a Commercial Vessel for maintenance purposes

Code: [Select]
Eden class Terraformer    257,400 tons     2065 Crew     6251.6 BP      TCS 5148  TH 0  EM 0
1 km/s     Armour 3-360     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 1     PPV 0
MSP 15    Max Repair 500 MSP
Terraformer: 10 module(s) producing 0.012 atm per annum

I realize that the ships are rather large in terms of tonnage, but I have the yards to build them in my current game.   Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on here? I am not completely sure, but I think this topic fits better in the Academy or maybe the ATAC thread as opposed to Ship Design.

EDIT:

I have in the past managed to get all of these classes to "fit" in a single yard I am just having some difficulty in repeating that feat.  It might also be useful to mention this in the Wiki.

Here is a more recent thread:
http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php/topic,5079.0.html

the upshot is that cargo holds are dirt cheap, and therefore will quite easily be eligible classes for the widest variety of ships.

On the "DAC / Rank / Info" tab of the class window, there is a section called "Eligible Additional Classes", which lists which other classes you can build if you tool a shipyard for the currently selected class. The criterion is that you must be able to refit the selected class to the additional class for less than 20% of the selected class cost.

When you click Refit Details in the shipyard, it will tell you exactly which components have to be replaced and at what cost.
