I'm eventually going to release C# in 32 bit and 64 bit and with an install program or a simple copy of a pre-installed folder.  This first release is a 32 bit pre-installed folder and is the same version as the recent videos.  The required resolution is 1440 x 900.

For now I am going to use Dropbox to avoid any issues with downloads on the forums.

1) Create an Aurora folder in your desired location (NOT program files)
2) Download the file below
3) Unzip into the folder
4) Run Aurora. exe

C# Aurora V1. 00 (160Mb)

The game should open with a freshly created game.  One billion pop on Earth and 1 NPR.  To create a new game, click the gear icon (third from right) and then click New Game.

DON'T FORGET TO SAVE!! (Use the disk icon).

Link has been turned off automatically by Dropbox.

Which is why this thread is littered with mirrors and torrent links.

Hello Steve,

Since i couldn't find any way to contact you in private, I'm writing you here.   I'm part of the community developing Endless Sky, an open source game reminiscent of Escape Velocity.

We've been made aware that that Aurora C# uses some assets from Endless Sky, and i decided to check it out.   It turns out there are some *serious* licensing issues.   Now, the content that is taken from Disney's, Games Workshop's and presumably some other IPs is not really my concern - I'm not lawyer enough to determine whether that is fair use or not.   I would simply advise against taking that wager, since it only serves to make your game more vulnerable to copyright claims.
What i am concerned about is the use of licensed free artwork without proper acknowledgement.   Specifically, the files i found are:

- Ship074.  png : Originally https://github.  com/endless-sky/endless-sky/blob/v0.  9.  8/images/ship/berserker.  png, licensed under CC-BY-SA-4.  0 by Michael Zahniser:
https://github.  com/endless-sky/endless-sky/blob/97c1fae2e1a9ecec2d14cf44b34101f37e763b05/copyright#L10-L12
- Ship029.  png: Originally https://github.  com/endless-sky/endless-sky/blob/v0.  9.  8/images/ship/berserker.  png, licensed under CC-BY-SA-4.  0 by Michael Zahniser:
https://github.  com/endless-sky/endless-sky/blob/97c1fae2e1a9ecec2d14cf44b34101f37e763b05/copyright#L10-L12
- Ship067.  png: Originally https://github.  com/Amazinite/Shields-Up/blob/master/002-Phils%20Flavours/images/ship/katalox-1.  png, licensed by Phil Morley under CC-BY-SA-4.  0:
https://github.  com/Amazinite/Shields-Up/blob/master/002-Phils%20Flavours/copyright%20and%20changelog%20etc.  txt

These files are all licensed under CC-BY-SA-4.  0, which allows you to use them in this way - as long as
a) you give proper credit, either by means of a Debian Copyright File (https://www.  debian.  org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.  0/) or in any less formal way
b) Aurora C# is published as either CC-BY-SA-4.  0 or a compatible license

I strongly advise you to either adhere to these terms, or remove the files in question from the game.   Not only is it legally questionable (although i doubt anyone will choose to exercise their right) , taking artwork from random artists and distributing it as a package that is seemingly entirely your work is simply disingenuous and rude.   Given that you yourself are making your creation (which is most impressive, by the way) freely available on the internet, i hope your understand and correct this situation.

Thanks for reading.

Edit: Sorry for the botched links, i can't make the forum recognize BBCode, nor can i make it stop inserting spaces after every dot.  Hope this is still somewhat readable.

So correct me if I'm wrong but from my understanding Aurora C# doesn't need to be published under a compatible license if the licensed files are simply distributed separately from C# and given the appropriate credit? So repackage all images with a text file containing credit and then distribute it separately from the C# installation so that people can then download it and include it if they feel like.

You're not wrong.   MCOfficer forgot to actually read the license they were quoting.   Steve only has to attribute the images that he has used, and make available any modifications to those images that he might have made that are more substantial than technical tweaks to get them to work in Aurora.

edit: Usually including a readme. txt with a list of used material and attributions within is more than adequate.

Thanks for the clarification, i misread that indeed.  "build upon the material" is not simply redistributing.  Hence, INAL ;)

I've removed the three files and took the opportunity to make the full install v1.5.1 rather than 1.00

If anyone from Disney is watching and wants me to remove any images, please get in touch.  If you are concerned about publicity and unfamiliar with how forums work, just click the My Messages link at the top of the forum.

Well it seems those 3 images can stay if you include a text file or something, I don't know much about this stuff but while 3 images don't make any major difference I see no reason to remove them if you don't actually need to.

Thanks for all the work so far, 52 years into 1.5.1 and no error messages but weirdly enough no time slowed down for NPR fighting and I think I set 3 if I remember right and for them to interact with non-NPR's but we will see! I hope you get some rest. I am sure that even if you took some days / time off and spent time with your family that you will have a 99 percent bug free 1.x version out by the end of the month, you are a real monster to these bugs :)

I think adding a text file to the effect that none of the images are mine and I am happy to remove them on request is a good idea. I'll sort that out in the morning.

However, easier to remove these specific files to avoid any concerns.

The CC license requires a mention of where the material comes from, details are here:
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/

For other images other licenses may apply of course, but not easy to know when they are floating around the web.

If you are anyway adding a text file maybe a short terms of use statement of your own could go in there - for benefit of anyone getting the rar outside of this forum.
