Two questions, one request
« on: January 19, 2013, 02:59:20 PM »
Hello, kind-hearted Aurora players.  I've been having some trouble playing this wonderfully complex 4x game.

First of all, how can I be sure that my asteroid mining ships are actually mining the asteroid I've sent them to? Maybe they would be just staying around, admiring the beauty of the universe, and ten years later I would still be waiting for the minerals to arrive.

Second, could you tell me in a short text, a very resumed text, everything you do during the first, say, 5 years? I'd really appreciate it, if it wouldn't be too troublesome.

Something like
Code: [Select]
- Survey planets.
- Select a good administrator for the Earth.
- Mine for minerals.
- Watch as the sun beautifully hides behind the horizon in mars.
Would suffice very much.

Thanks in advance,
AssassinT90.

Make sure you have a colony on the asteroid, as without one they won't deposit the minerals there. Check the "Mining" tab; it will mention orbital miners at the top and tell you how many are active, taking into account commander bonuses. Minerals are deposited on the asteroid and need to be picked up by cargo bay-equipped ships or sent out by mass driver if you want them off-world.

Thank you very much for the quick reply, CheaterEater.

I retardedly pressed some hotkey and my post went off before I could finish it.   Well, I'll edit it.
BTW, is there any screen that tells me "Look, your ships are mining this asteroid with a production of 20 tons of duranium per year", rather than "Your ships are orbiting this planet and waiting for further orders", or even "Your ships aren't mining the asteroid because frakk you, that's why".

It'd be really helpful so I could make sure I am not doing anything wrong.

Thank you again,
AssassinT90.

1)You can be sure by checking the f6 page. on the upper right corner there is an assigned population tab, and if it should be set incorrectly you can correct it there. issuing a move order to the body in question works though,so I typically move ships to body, and then join any tg already there. just joining a tg should work but doesn't always.

2)
-Research basic survey capability. build basic geosurvey craft.
-Find good mines. Good = Duranium,Mercassium,Corrundium in high amounts, tritanium/vendarite/boronide in medium-low amounts, low everything else.
-expand shipyards to the point where they can support early designs(3000 tons for conventional starts, 5-10k for TN).
-research JP tech and combat tech(missiles, armor, sensors)
-upon finding good terraforming planet get terraforming modules and research.
-upon finding gas giant with good sorium amount get sorium harvester modules.
-fix boronide shortage from the above two priorities.
-build mines/automines, factories, and research labs as minerals provide taking care not to limit shipbuilding which is more immediately important usually.

Thank you very much, Nathan and se5a.  I've finally managed to get it right!

Another question, how do I use active sensors?

Another question, how do I use active sensors?

Either F12, issue an order at a location to turn sensors on. Or F8. Hit the big Active Sensors button.

Thank you very much, Erik!

Another one: How can I check how many construction factories/infrastructure/mines/etc I have on a colony?

The first tab on the window when you press F2 lists all of that information.

Oh wow.    I feel slightly retarded.   .   .

Thanks, clement.

Another one:
What is the gravitational survey sensor for? IIRR, it was something about jump points, but three years after my gravsurvey was deployed I still didn't find a single jump point.
Never mind, I've just realized that I've found 20 jump points already.   Silly me.

Thanks anyway.
