Bureau of Ship Design / tankers?
« on: February 06, 2008, 07:21:10 PM »
is there any special ship component needed to make a tanker? i'm looking to convert some frieghters into tankers to keep my fleets fueled up when operating away from Sol.

do you have enough fuel? i haven't encounted hostiles in my game yet (or any aliens, actually), but in the game i was using to experiment with the controls i wound up stranding a fleet halfway between the orbits of saturn and Uranus because i hadn't remembered to refuel them the last time they were at earth.

more of a strategic issue, but if your looking at any kind of running battle it's a good thing to remember.

everything seems to be working fine, except i keep getting "error6 Overflow" after a while, which after closing several instances at once the program shuts down. only occurs when i try to open anything related to the Economics window.

i've found the only way to resolve this so far is to delete that game, which is annoying. especially since i barely get started before it crops up.

how do you go from the class design page to getting the class available at ship yards?

ok. after hooking up to a bigger monitor, it turns out the ship design issue was because i couldn't access the lower part of the screen. i was trying to make new ships without creating a new class first. oops.    no wonder the database was yelling at me.

i hooked up my laptop to my old monitor, which can handle the size. makes running things awat from my room harder, but now i can see everything. :)

really just a stopgap though.

Aurora Suggestions / resizeable windows

for those of us with smaller screens. myself i'm stuck with a maximum of 1280x800, which cuts off the bottom of a few of the windows. it may or may not be a problem, i'll have to get it running and play around to see.

but it might be something to look into for future updates. either a way to change the size of the windows, reducing the size of the windows themselves, or adding a scroll bar to allow users to view parts of the screen that are out of sight.

it solved the system information problem, but i'm still getting the same messages for the ship design section. i'll check to see if the "Microsoft Jet Database" program needs updates or something.

these are the error message explanations i can find on the site..
Invalid Property array index
Object variable or With block variable not set

i tried reinstalling, and i tried the regsvr32, no change.

so i did a file search to see if i even had the file. no result. a check of turns up that MSSTDFMT.DLL is not a runtime file shipped with vista.

so it looks like this is a OS problem.

i've had them before. i lost the capacity to run Starfleet Command 1 years back when Windows switched over to ME from 95/2000.

Aurora Bugs / getting aurora to work
« on: February 02, 2008, 10:04:21 PM »
i've installed the game, and i keep getting error messages. here is a list of the ones so far..

when i clicked on "system information" i recieved the following:
Error 713 was generated by Aurora
Class not registered
You need the following file to be installed on your machine. MSSTDFMT.DLL

when i chose a hull type in ship design it give me messages:
"invalid property array index"

and then

"the microsoft jet database engine cannot find query ' and component ID IN (select SDcomponentID from ShipDesignComponents where type allowed = 2)' make sure the name is spelled correctly"

before going to
"Object variable or With block variable not set"

then i get a chance to continue. if i pick no, the selection is cancelled. if i choose yes, i get a constant cycle of the above messages which i have to use the windows task manager to shut down the program to escape.

for referance, i'm using Windows Vista, on a Acer laptop with AMD Turion dual core processor, (1.9ghz).
