Okay so I'm a few years into a game and I have a huge mess of Star Swarm ships just a couple of jumps away from Sol. To fight them off I built a large number of Fighters, but now the Fighters are all focusing on single targets, leaving a lot of firepower to go to waste. They are doing their job effectively enough, killing another Star Swarm ship every 5 seconds, but it's only one at a time. I've tried manually assigning targets to each fighter but it's irritating and the orders just don't seem to stick. So my question is, is there any way to get the fighters to assign separate targets, or do I have to keep clicking the 5-second button for a few hours?

I have no idea why, but all my fighters suddenly started attacking separate targets without me assigning them in EXACTLY the way that I wanted them to. No idea what I did but I guess it worked? ???
Sorry for putting up an unnecessary topic.
