It's a ruins only available tech.  If memory serves correctly, you can store something like 5x the fuel that a standard tank of the same mass/hull space will store.

Lucky you.  I had Compressed Fuel Storage in one of my early games and loved it.  I haven't had it since and miss it very much.

You have to finish the research where you disassembled it.
So unless your Labs are somewhere else, that was precisely the move you had to do.

Yes it should be a good move if your main research are done on earth. Drop it on earth, open production window, click stockpile then find your compressed fuel tank, dissassemble it, then go to your research window and find the new tech you just found, research build/add to your new ship

For tech like this (Precursor or Invader) you need to get enough points from disassembling to complete research to the first level.  So if CFSS required 5000RP* to research, you would still need another 4900RP from disassmbling components before it would appear as a research item.  You would then have CFSS level 1 available as a system to manufacture and you would then be able to research CFSS level 2 etc.
*- I have no idea how many RP CFSS does require.

Are there pre-requisites as I just dissembled 29 of them to get 29 messages of there was no new technology found when this item was dissembled.
