Outer Expansion, Slip-space lanes and the second phase of exploration
Year: 2176
Summary: The year 2176 was a period of jump stabilisation expansion with one quarter of the known galaxy now being either connected by a jump stabilised jump point or soon to be stabilised point, this period came after the UNSC was ordered by president Laskey to gain control of and extract as well as decipher the alien technology in Alpha Corvi-A, in other news it was also a period of construction and more permanent settlements as well as the continued expansion of humanity across the universe.
Attached below is the current galactic map as known by the UEG in the year 2176

January - April:
January - 23rd, 23 Librae is discovered by Commander Albert Schulenberg, it is a single star, system with only three comets in the local are as such no mineral or atmospheric report was filed.
January - 28th, 26 Draconis is discovered by Commander Brendon Fedor, similar to 23 Librae it is a single star, system with a total of ten comets in the local area and like 23 Librae this was why no mineral or atmospheric report was filed.
January - 31st, the UNSC Logistics command is ordered to move mines from Earth to the Tannenberg colony in Proxima Centauri, this will allow the mining of duranium and will be the first extrasolar mining operation in UEG history.
February - 28th, CE-2-1239 Is discovered by Commander Marlon Studebaker, it a single, star system with five planets, 30 moons, 43 asteroids and two near habitable worlds, part of the hector arm this system would be a useful colony in the future, commander Marlon reports on the geological and atmospheric nature of the system.

It is within my opinion and the opinion of the my science officer that this system contains a useful albeit small supply of high access vendarite as well a supply of sorium, thus this system should not be designated for a mining system instead it should be designated as a world for pure colonial expansion.
-Commander Marlon Studebaker
Atmospheric report:
In the system there are are two close to habitable planets, a terrestrial planet and a dwarf planet, the terrestrial planet has a surface akin to Luna or Mars but is extremely hot at 247c, as such it would take a long time for it to be fully habitable, it can sustain a population of 286 million people, with a gravity of 0.4 and a diameter of 4,400, it is also tidal locke which does not make it a good candidate for colonisation at least at the start in the system.
The dwarf planet on the other hand is similar to mars in two aspects, one its surface is barren, and two it has a Ice sheet on the north and south pole of the planet, it is much smaller then the first planet with estimates putting the max population this world cold sustain at 189 million people, it would also require low gravity infrastructure due to its gravity of 0.068 of earths, so while it has water it would still require specialised equipment to fully utilise.
It is in this commanders opinion that the dwarf planet is the best chance for permanent settlement in the system, due to its Ice sheet and the much more tolerable temperature, its low gravity does cause concern but this can be overcome with specialise equipment.
-Commander Marlon Studebaker
April - 5th, UNSC logistics command finishes delivering thirty mines to the Tannenberg colony, these will now begin mining and provide duranium, logistics command has also set a cargo ship to begin delivering shipments of duranium from the colony which will supply Earth with much needed material for the ship building and infrastructure efforts. This also has the bonus of providing jobs to the the now 5 million population which can now provide more taxes to the UEG.
April - 24th, A tanker reaches Alpha-Corvi-A III and begins refueling the UNSC Strikegroup in orbit with much needed fuel, once the fuel has been offload the UNSC Fleet begins a perimeter sweep of the system and finds no aliens in the immediate area, satisfied they head back to the third planet.
June:
June - 23rd, Brendon Fedor discovers the system of Charybdis, the system contains six planets, sixty one moons and two near habitable worlds, it is a part of the Galloways Cluster located in the South eastern part of the galaxy, commander Brendon Fedor reports on the system are attached below.

As you can see here in this mineral report the various worlds of this system are of great value to the UEG as a whole, with deposits of almost every kind of mineral and at high accessibility, it is imperative that the UNSC Colonise this system if we are to increase shipyard and ship production more than we already are, it is in my opinion that this system should be designated as a "Mining System - Priority 2".
-Commander Brendon Fedor
Atmospheric Report:
The system contains various near habitable bodies, but most of these are tidally locked moons with no atmosphere and little gravity as such the only world that is of note to the UEG is the planet of Charybdis-A III as it is designated, it has a hydrosphere of 80% Ice which could be melted to almost raise the temps to habitable, current surface temps reach a max of -52c, it can also sustain a max population 1/12ths of Earths, it also has two moons which could be colonised for nearby trade and growth, it is also the only planet in the system not tidally locked meaning that it is the best possible target for terraforming, as such it is in my opinion that this world be the first colonised in the system and that terraformers move there immediately.
-Commander Brendon Fedor
October:
October - 16th, Commander Houston Chadwick discovers the system of Chi Ceti in the Galloways Cluster, it is a single star, system that contains eight planets, and forty-nine moons, it contains two worlds that with enough time could be colonised, attached below Commander Houston Chadwick reports on the mineral and atmospheric composition of the system.

It is in my opinion that the system of Chi-Ceti is like that of Gaul in ancient antiquity a place ripe for the taking, its minerals stores are vast and plump but unlike Gaul it is completely undefended, our sacrifice for taking them instead of bodies will be time and energy which is almost as bad from some peoples view points, it contains high access sorium reserves as well as high access minerals of all different types which can be used for a variety of applications.
-Commander Houston Chadwick
Atmospheric Report:
The system holds two possible worlds for terra-forming, the 1st and 4th moon of the 3rd planet, they orbit a gas giant, the first is a frozen iceball with 74% of the hydrosphere being an Ice sheet and temperatures reaching -134, it also contains a Nitrogen-Oxygen atmosphere with the added factor of Flourine in the mix, 84% Nitrogen - 155 Oxygen - 0.4% Flourine, the fourth moon is in a similar situation but with only a hydrosphere of 2% Ice sheet as well as the same NNitrogen-Oxygen atmosphere with 74% Nitrogen - 23% Oxygen - 1.8% C02, it is also tidle locked and has 0.5 gravity of Earth.
It is in my opinion as the writer of this report that this system would not be ideal for permanent settlement and must instead be designated as a mining system with partial settlement until the mineral reserves have been exhausted.

Outer Expansion, Tragedy strikes
Year:2177
UNSC - Report
(Prior to December 3rd)
Summary:The year 2177 is a year of major developments with the Hector arm now getting enough jump stabilisation stations to fully stabilise the route to Alpha-Corvi III as well as the discovery of new star system, Cordoba, and Cygnus respectively. Production was also increased as well as the formation and use of engineering companies to begin garrisoning worlds and the development of new design and technologies. The year also saw the establishment of the Central Command system, as we discover more worlds it is imperative to lay groundwork to not only colonise but to organise naval fleets across light years of space as such the CENTCOM system was developed to allow centralised command in manageable sectors.

January - March
February - 5th, Commander Brendan Feder discovers a new connection to the known system of Shaka from Wolf 424, this now means that the Centaurus Cluster is fully enclosed and any hostile forces would have to go through proxima centauri, this is a major development as the three systems in the cluster have the potential to provide a lot of resources to the UEG.
February - 14th, Commander Galen Reos discovers the system of Cordoba, it s a trinary star system, with two planets, two moons and twenty asteroids orbiting the first star, with one near habitable world, it was not deemed of high enough importance to write a full mineral or atmospheric report on the system as such a partial mineral report was filed instead.

March - 17th, Commander Marlon Studebaker of the UNSC - Tannenberg discovers the system of Cygnus, it is another trinary star system with five planets and three moons, four planets orbit the first star while one planet orbits the second star, UNSC lost contact with Commander Studebaker shortly after he entered the system so no mineral or atmospheric report was able to be transmitted from the UNSC - Tannenberg.
UNSC - Tannenberg
(April 21st-22nd)
Commander Log, Date: 21st of April, 2177: We have just entered the newly designated star system "cygnus" it appears to be a trinary star system with multiple terrestrial planets around the first star while a single planet orbits around the second star, my science officer has advised me that the fourth planet of the first star could support life as initial observations have shown a world not too unlike Earth and under my science officers advisement I am taking the UNSC - Tannenberg to the fourth planet as he has convinced me it is imperative to perform a geological survey of the planet as it could be a useful world for the UEG in the future, will report back once we have entered orbit.
Commander Log, Date: 06:00 hours, 21st of April, 2177: It is incredible... I cannot believe it myself but all readings indicate that my science officer is correct, we have detected sonar as well as electromagnetic signals from the fourth planet, this can mean only one thing as there is no UNSC Settlement out this far and that is alien life, it is the only possible answer, as the sonar contacts were coming in I had my radar officer reconfirm it at-least five times, without fail he confirmed it every single time, at this point I am unsure on how to proceed I will consult with my bridge crew and prepare a response immediately, will report back once we have come to a decision.
Commander Log, Date: 06:40 hours, 21st of April, 2177: After the contacts were detected and then reconfirmed by my radar officer I have come to the decision with the advisement of my officers, Marine Lieutenant Davies suggested that we pull back immediately and head to the jump point to report our findings and get assistance in case they are hostile, while my science officer advised that we attempt to initiate friendly contact and failing that at the very least observe them from a distance, with these two lines of advisement in my mind I have decided that the best course of action is to move the ship back towards the 1st planet in the system and use it to conceal ourselves, while this is not exactly what either of my two officers wanted it is a compromise and a what I hope to be a good one, ...I hope this works.... Commander Marlon - Out.
Commander Log, Date: 06:55 Hours, 21st of April, 2177: We have begun moving towards the first planet, estimation on how long it will take to reach it are up to ten hours at most an--- Yes ensign what is it? What do you mean you have detected missile launches! How many? did you just say twenty fire, Pull us around and get us out of here immediately, and go for general quarters, estimation until impact Ensign? Three minutes! But we are over two billion KM away, alright order all hands to brace for impact and tell everyone to get to the life pods, no lieutenant I am staying here if I can keep the ship moving then the missile impact will not impact the lifepods, and this may be your only chance, hopefully they will not see the lifepods when the missiles impact.
This is Commander Marlon Studebaker of the UNSC-Tannenberg to any UNSC ship that finds this, the fourth plan----*static*
Life pods launch as the ship is engulfed in flames
UNSC - Tannenberg - Lifepod #6
Lifepod #6 this is Lieutenant Davies of the 5th Marine Platoon compliment that was stationed on-board the UNSC - Tannenberg, this is a message to all UNSC forces, be aware Cygnus is designated Xeno-Charlie, do not approach, I repeat do not approach, there are sixty of us left from what I can find, the comms are scrambled from the radiation caused by the explosion of the UNSC - Tannenberg, I have ordered what is left of my marine compliment to get ready to defend the life pods against the aliens if they attempt to board us and we are working on ways to get our drop pods landed on the 1st planet, Lieutenant Davies out.
All sixty survivors of the UNSC - Tannenbergs destruction would later suffocate in their lifepods
Continuation of the UNSC Report on the year 2177
August:
August - 28th, due to communication loss with the UNSC - Tannenberg the Office of Naval Intelligence has requested that we immediately investigate his last known position and ensure the Tannenberg is fine and does not require assistance, we have obliged that request and the UNSC - Bellerophon has been dispatched under the command of Commander Casey Waymire who is tasked with locating the UNSC - Tannenberg, it should show up this is a regular occurrence in the UEG, could be atmospheric or electromagnetic storms causing communication loss.
UNSC - Bellophron
(27th of September)
Commander Casey Waymires Commander logs on the 27th of September:
Commander Log, Date: 11:00 Hours, 27th of September, 2177, We are a month into our journey from Alpha-Corvi III and have arrived into the Cygnus system, I do not understand why high command believes that we should even be out here, the old studebaker has probably got lost in a asteroid belt... anyway we have entered the system and will perform a full perimeter scan in edition to long range scans from our current position.
Commander Log, Date: 12:00 Hours, 27th of September, 2177, Well so far long range scans have indicated some kind of wreckage near the systems star, the wreck seems to be orbiting the first star, I will report back once we have full detailed scans of the wreckage as well as what it could be, most likely drifting wrecks of some kind.
Commander Log, Date: 13:00 Hours, 27th of September, 2177, I feel terrible now... I have just been given the fully detailed long range scans and the images appear to show the wreckage of the Tannenberg, well whats left of it anyway and from what our sensors can detect at this range we believe the ship was impacted by some kind of nuclear weapon as scans indicate higher levels of background radiation, under the advisement of my first officer I have decided to keep the ship at a distance for now as while we may stand a better chance then the Tannenberg, we do not have the weapons nor the support to fight a hostile alien race that we have no intelligence on, in the meantime we are going to be transmitting these logs as well as a report on the Tannenbergs destruction to Earth, will report back once this has been completed, ....why...did...i...for...*sigh*.
The full findings and message from the UNSC - Bellophron would reach UNSC Command in two months
Continuation of the UNSC Report on the year 2177
October:
October - 2nd, the construction of twelve Rapier class strike interceptors completes, as well as the arrival of the first colonists in the Savannah system, they will be landing on the newly designated moon of Reos, the moon was named after the commander of the UNSC - Savannah who first discovered the system in 2172.
November:
November - 27th, UNSC Logistics command lands deep space tracking stations on Alpha Corvi-A III, this is the start of permanent settlement and will the detection of any contacts entering the system within the range of the third planet.
UNSC - Bellophron
(3rd of December/18th of December)
Commander Casey Waymires Commander logs on the 3rd of December:
Commander Log, 17:00 Hours, 3rd of December, 2177, We have finally finished transmitting the data to UNSC Command and I have now taken the ship out to the wreckage in the distance, I sometimes wonder If I should of waited so long but with my bridge crew in agreement and the evidence, I do believe that we took the right action, will report back when we finish analysis of the wreckage.
Commander Log, 11:00 Hours, 18th of December, 2177, After reaching the wreckage we could no longer deny that it was the UNSC - Tannenberg, after this realisation I ordered a full scan for any life signs, as well as for complements of marines to load up and deploy the use of vacuum suits to recover the black box of the UNSC - Tannenberg, once it was recovered we would be able to tell what had fully happened to the UNSC Tannenberg, and they are currently in the process of securing the black box as we I speak, in the mean time there are six life pods located about 1mk away from the wreckage of the Tannenberg, I have sent another detachment of marines to recover the lifepods and bring them into an emergency cargo hold.
Commander Log, 12:00 Hours, 18th of December, 2177, We have recovered the black box it appears to be in a damaged condition and my science officer is unsure how much data could be recovered without the proper facilities, under the advisement of my science officer we will set course for the outpost on Alpha Corvi-A III so that we can analyse the data immediately, in other news... *sigh* only sixty bodies were recovered from the lifepods, the rest of the bodies of the crew of the Tannenberg are gone... the crew totalled 311, it appears only those who got to the lifepods managed to escape immediate destruction, but my medical officer indicates that they suffocated in their lifepods around a week after destruction of the UNSC - Tannenberg, the Aliens.... they just.... left them to die... the body of Commander Studebaker was also not recovered, neither was the body of any of his bridge crew except for Lieutenant Davies who I was told was found in the sixth life pod hunched over his weapon, will report back once we have completed operations.
Commander Log, 13:00 Hours, 18th of December, 2177, We have set a course for the outpost on Alpha Corvi-A III, all the bodies found in the lifepods were recovered and the blackbox of the UNSC - Tannenberg even slightly damaged will be of use, we found no alien contacts so far, either they moved on after destroying the Tannenberg or are observing us from a distance, either thought is not one I particularly like, we will be back at alpha Corvi-III in two months, Commander Casey Waymire -out.
UNSC - Emergency Report to the President
(December 3rd)
I regret to inform you sir, that the UNSC - Tannenberg was destroyed with all hands lost shortly after losing contact with the vessel, it appears it was destroyed by a hostile alien force with some kind of nuclear weapon, the blackbox as well as the bodies of the crew have been loaded onto the UNSC - Bellophron who confirmed the destruction of the UNSC - Tannenberg and they are to be brought to a nearby outpost for analysis, I further regret to inform you sir that Commander Marlon Studebakers body was not recovered.
It is within my opinion that we need an immediate response to this, I advise we send a carrier strikegroup to Alpha Corvi-A and start the building of listening posts in the area to detect any further alien contacts as well as increase ship production to handle the movement of half of our navy to the Hector Arm, it lies with you President on what to do.

The Funeral of Commander Marlon Studebaker and the UNSC - Tannenberg
(https://i.imgur.com/KAYcXsh.jpg)
September 26th, 2178.
The Year had been one of the saddest in UEG history with the death of the most beloved commander in the UNSC as well as the UNSC - Tannenberg and its entire crew of 311 that came with the discovery of hostile aliens, it was now time to lay to rest the bodies of these brave men, unfortunately Commander Marlon would not be there physically as his body had been obliterated in the initial nuclear blast, they would be laid to rest at a war memorial site in the capital city of Sydney, Australia, besides him would be his brothers and sisters in arms who were laid to rest during the battles of the departed in the decades leading up to the year 2170.
The Funeral took place at 01:00 hours in the afternoon with almost every person from the UNSC and UEG high command in direct attendance and millions more lining the streets and outside the memorial, this was a shock to society and everyone was grieving , if it were not for the fact that the funeral was occurring today there would of been mass demonstrations in the street calling for UNSC response and escalation against the aliens, the populace in the days prior were using Commander Marlon as a martyr and proclaiming that he died in the line of duty for "Earth" and that the UNSC should fight in the line of duty for him, but not today as even the most fervent of demonstrators would not go against the mans own funeral.
It was a traditional military memorial service, six marines carried Lieutenant Davies the only body of the bridge crew recovered to the summit and placed the casket into the ground, once they had done so, eight UNSC Marines marched in with guns to the side and fired a 21 gun salute, every shot fired into the air and as they fired the casket was covered up by dirt, all around the memorial were metallic poles sticking out of the ground in an ornamental pattern that signified all 311 men that died on the UNSC - Tannenberg, the memorial grounds were officially called the "Tannenberg Memorial Grounds".
Once the 21 gun salute finished the president of the UEG stepped forward to speak, the words below were transcribed from the funeral proceedings.
"It is with great dismay, great sadness, that I stand here... for myself, I remember coming to a site just like this one and presenting the very man we are burying with a medal, for words cannot describe how the people of earth felt when they heard about the loss of their commander, of their hero.... because that is what he was a hero and without heroes we would not be standing on this very ground, on this very earth."
"While I never served for the navy, I served for my planet and for my people and I wish I could of served this one better, I sometimes think to myself what we could of done differently to change what had happened, and with that thought in my mind, I can think of ways to help improve peoples lives just like our hero did."
"But let us not forget the brothers and sisters of the Tannenberg, they served with our commander... our hero and they did so with all the diligence and discipline expected from the UNSC, without those men and women we would not be here today either, I wish for all members of our armed services and those of our private sector to take these words and this sacrifice and turn it into one worthy of marlon... of our hero."
"For we are unified, for we are human, and for we are in this together!"
The Funeral Ended with those last words and a glimmer of hope in the eyes of all those in attendance
Author Notes: this was the plan for Commander Marlons funeral but it would of been a bit more extensive but I did not have the time as I have to prepare now for the next timeline
