Boarding mechanics and missiles in nebulae
« on: November 16, 2014, 08:17:52 AM »
How does boarding work?
Is it the same as ground combat with 5 day ticks or are they shorter?

and will missiles in nebulae not move, are they instantly destroyed or is it impossible to fire them?

According to this post from Steve:

http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php/topic,1680.0.html

boarding combat takes place every five minutes. I don't know enough to comment on nebulae, but I am interested in this question as well.

I think the same rules apply to missiles as ships, you need armor, and lots of it. But don't quote me on this as it might be wrong as I have not encountered any nebula yet (scouted almost 100 systems so far in my current game).
Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, but set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

I just tested it, when you try to launch it will say that you cannot launch a missile in a nebulae.

Did you use "real stars"?  There are no nebulae close enough to Earth in real life, so you won't encounter any.  If you turned "real stars" off, you'll find some sooner or later.

How about launching a missile from outside the nebula at a target within the nebula?

I think the entire system is in the nebula. You can't leave without jumping to another system. And missiles can't be equipped with jump drives.

But that would be cool, FTL intersystem cruise missiles. The UNSC used them early in the war against the Covenant, it only partially worked as distractions because they gave of a lot of emissions that made them visible because of the way the radiation affected slipspace.

It's the same as with Black Hole systems - the entire system is considered either Nebula or Black Hole, there is no "outside" unless you jump elsewhere.
