A question regarding mesons as point defense.
« on: February 04, 2012, 12:37:36 AM »
I like mesons quite a lot, I use them exclusively for PD and fighters. I just want to make sure that they are actaully good PD weapons since I've never really seen them work, I've only had a couple missile using enemies actually get shots off so I'm not actually sure they work.

Mainly I want to make sure that the 1 point of damage a meson does is enough. Will some missles take the damage and keep flying? Or is one point enough to destroy any missle.

The ignoring armor thing is great against armoured missles, but if I need to hit the missle multiple times anyway then mesons arn't quite as good as I thought.

Steve is a pretty cool guy, he makes games and doesn't afraid of anything.

Missiles can only ever take one hit. Armored missiles work by having a chance of ignoring a hit, Mesons ignore that. So mesons are a pretty decent missile defence weapon in that respect.

Thanks, I'll continue my meson based PD then.

Is this working nowadays?  I have a vague recollection that someone (Kurt?) noticed that meson point defence was bugged, and actually never killed any missiles.  I could VERY easily be mis-remembering, however.

If that's true I have a problem, and no point defense.

It was a long time ago and the problem was meson guns would only kill missiles and not damage anything else
