Title: Games, Laptops, & Screen Resolution?
Post by: Thundercraft on May 08, 2013, 12:43:12 PM
I understand that there are ways around the 1280x1024 resolution requirement for Aurora. But I could really use some input on screen resolution requirements for other games.

Simply put, my friend's laptop quit on him and he's looking for a new one. However, we discovered that over 95% of low to mid priced new laptops on the market have a maximum native resolution of 1366 x 768. (Apparently, these days, higher resolutions are typically only available for high end models.) Aside from problems with Aurora, we wondered what other games this could cause problems with.

Q: Can you name any other games that require a vertical resolution higher than 768 px to play?

I use a 1366x768 screen and the only game that has caused problems is aurora. Most games can scale the window to the screen, though it sometimes looks abit odd.  On another note, do not buy a 1366x768 laptop. While it might not seem to be bad at first, I've found that the only way I can stand it is by having the taskbat on the side. This is because the aspect ratio commonly ends up a little odd, which can be really irritating.

Thanks for this input. Yeah, that does seem like a really odd resolution and I could see how it might cause complications. And if I was in the market for a laptop, I'd feel jipped by the way they force such a low resolution on customers.

My friend did end up with a 1600x900 res laptop in his price range, with the features he wanted (more or less). He used their online custom build form. However, he had to settle for a 17" screen. He preferred to avoid 17" because he now has to get a bigger carrying bag/case and they're bulkier and seem more fragile.
