6 missiles per salvo is not enough for a ship with size 6 missile launchers. Unless you have a good idea on how you are going to pass through enemy point defense, I say you should pump that umber up to 12 missiles per salvo.
Supposing your enemy has AMM point defense, there are 2 ways to get to his ship, you could A: exaust his suply of missiles (AKA the expensive choice) or, you could B: break through his point defense. the idea in breaking through is making a salvo bigger than what the enemy could feasibly take out with his PD (or put armour in your missiles so they survive the enemy pd, but that usually ends up in weak missiles)
if you are going to fight precursor ships, I recomend you fine tune your basic operating fleet to be able to deal with at least 3 salvos of 12 missiles coming every 30 seconds for a very long time, they have A LOT of missiles, a good way of finding out if your PD is decent, is fighting them until their missiles are over and coming home with 0 casualties.
(by the way when they run out of missiles they will often try to close in and try to kill you with their PD, you could try and use that to exaust their PD if you think you can tank it, or just to check them as a baseline)
obs. You can also do kind of a mix of both tactics and try probing the enemy PD with highly armoured missiles to either calculate how large a salvo you will need to break through or try to exaust their pd by forcing them to fire multiple missiles on higly armoured missiles.
