Are gravsurvey sensors supposed to be military?

Dunno if this is carried over from VB6, but either way, could someone explain the rationale behind geosurvey being commercial and gravsurvey being military?

Jump points are of strategic importance, therefor military. This is how it was in Aurora VB.

Geo survey is not supposed to be commercial in C# Aurora, but it hasn't been changed yet.

Thanks for reminding me. Fixed now.

I guess this makes the 1.3 essential to start a new full game. Thanks for the amazing support Steve and we will keep playing the release for debugging purpose in the meantime.

Gravsurvey being commercial leads to essentially unchecked, mostly automated, almost unlimited expansion.  Military gravsurvey encourages you to set up forward bases, restricts the effective range of your survey efforts, and is otherwise more interesting from a gameplay point of view.

Just a note that even Geo sensors are now Military thing. In VB Aurora these were commercial as the idea was that civilians would also go around surveying stuff but that never happened but the change never happened there and because of it the Geo remained commercial in 1.0
