Earth Systems Alliance Part 1
« on: January 25, 2013, 07:07:41 PM »
January 1st, 75AS
The newly formed 1st and 2nd Patrol Squadrons, consisting of 4 Epsilon class Littoral-Combat Ships and 6 Indigo class Corvettes respectively, begin fleet maneuvers between Earth and Mars. These are intended for the dual purposes of training the crews and displaying to the populations that the Alliance is protecting them.

March 16th, 75AS
The civilian company Soltero Carrier Limited launches its first freighter. This is the first Alliance approved shipping line to begin moving goods between Earth and Mars. Prior to this, all shipping was done by either the Alliance itself, or by individuals who could afford to build or rent a ship.

April 14th, 75AS
The first jump point was discovered near the orbit of Saturn. This discovery is proof that the researcher's theory is correct. It is decided to do a complete survey of the Sol system before beginning exploration.

May 11th, 75AS
Two more jump points were found. One near the orbit of Jupiter and the second between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus.

June 15th, 75AS
A strange discovery was made on the moon Europa. A partially buried building was discovered by probes sent from an orbiting survey vessel. This information was kept classified and a council called to decide what should be done.

August 13th, 75AS
A private mining complex was established on Europa. It was approved by the Alliance only because the site they planned to exploit was on the far side of the planet from the buried ruins.

October 16th, 75AS
A fourth jump point was discovered, this one near the edge of the Sol system, close to the orbit of the dwarf planet Pluto.

November 21st, 75AS
The Alliance Commerce Board approved the creation of a second shipping line. Chino Colony Services plans to start moving freight and passengers between Earth and Mars by the New Year. The board of directors said they look forward to the day when they can move colonists beyond the Sol System. In a further attempt to stimulate trade, the Alliance Commerce Board loaned the newly formed company 2000 credits.

November 22nd, 75AS
A fifth jump point was found nearly in line with the orbit of Neptune.

December 29th, 75AS
Baria Frontiers, the company leading the survey efforts in Sol, have announced that they completed their operation. They found a total of 5 jump points. It was decided to bring the survey vessels back to Earth so they might be overhauled before sending them through the first jump point. This will take a couple of months, which also gives ample time for the crew of the two ships to visit family and friends before their momentous journeys begins.

March 25th, 76AS
The Baria Frontiers survey ship MSV Leif Ericson reached the closest jump point to Earth. The crew made preparations for the jump, and sent a message back to Alliance Command in New York. Captain Stacia Childress sat on the edge of her seat, looking out from the bridge into the blackness of space. She knew this was the right spot, as she had found it less than a year before, but still it was strange to think that anything was different here. Her crew finished their preparations, and she gave the order to charge the untested jump engine. The ship seemed to lurch forward around her, and though she felt a slight push on her chest, the inertial dampeners did their job and kept her from feeling most of the g-forces. Five minutes after the jump engine engaged, it cut out. Captain Childress looked out of the viewport before her at a new star system. Her sensors and on-board navigation computers told her it was designated Epsilon Eridani, a K2-V star, 25% smaller than Sol, and only a third as bright. It had only two planets orbiting it and nothing else. A probe was sent back through the jump point with the data.

March 25th, 76AS
The message from the automated probe was received at Alliance Command. The success of this first jump meant Humans were poised to expand to the stars. A news conference was held, and the day was proclaimed the first Systems Alliance holiday. Captain Childress was to be awarded the Alliance Service Cross in honor of her courage. The news conference also saw the creation of new naming conventions. The Alliance Parliament felt that the old, scientific designations would no longer suffice. Now that these stars were within reach, they needed true names, as did the planets orbiting them. A pool of astronomers, historians, and language experts were brought together and given the task of naming the newly discovered system and any to come after them.
This first system would now be called Caestus, and the planets orbiting it would be named Invictus and Temerarus. Temerarus appeared to be a potential location for a colony. It had only a trace atmosphere, but the temperature and gravity were within acceptable ranges. The order was given to send survey vessels equipped with mineral probes to the system. Baria Frontiers relayed the order to the MSV Amber, who was sitting idle in a docking bay above Earth, ready for just such an occasion.

April 10th, 76AS
The overhaul of the MSV Amerigo Vespucci was completed. The crew was ordered to prepare to explore the second jump point. After the success of the MSV Leif Ericson, this order was met with excitement instead of apprehension.
The survey vessel MSV Amber also reported finding ample deposits of minerals on Temerarus. Among them were over 12 million ton of easily accessible Gallicite. Thoughts about potential colonization immediately began to form.

April 16th, 76AS
The Tereshkova system was discovered. An M6-V star with six planets and about two dozen asteroids. The survey ship MSV Sapphire was ordered to the system.

May 26th, 76AS
The MSV Amber completed its planetary survey in Caestus, finding no other mineral deposits. After sending a message back to Alliance Command and Baria Frontiers, they moved back through Sol and then on to Tereshkova to assist in the surveys there.

July 11th, 76AS
With the planetary survey of Tereshkova complete, Alliance Command asked Baria Frontiers to recall the MSV Amber to be sent through the third jump point. Baria Frontiers agreed, hoping to garner favor and future opportunities.

July 20th, 76AS
The star system Faryar was discovered. A binary system of an A1-V primary and D1-VII secondary, it contains 7 planets and over 300 asteroids. The most amazing discovery, however, was an almost perfect garden world. The 6th Moon of the planet Antictra, orbiting the secondary star, has an atmosphere consisting of 83% Nitrogen, 12.2% CO2 and 4.8% Oxygen. The gravity is 1.5 times that of Earth, and the atmospheric pressure is over double, but still the planet is a prime candidate for colonization. The survey ship MSV Amber immediately set out to survey the system, methodically making it's way to this gem.

October 1st, 76AS
The planetary survey of the 6th moon of Antictra was completed. The survey ship MSV Amber reports finding 34.9 million tons of Duranium, 6.8 million tons of Corbomite, 13.6 million tons of Boronide, 54.4 million tons of Vendarite, 242,064 tons of Sorium and 2.6 million tons of Uridium. None of the deposits are easily exploited, but Baria Frontiers has offered to send a ground team to complete a more in depth survey in the hopes of finding deposits in more accessible areas. The Alliance Parliament holds a press conference to announce the discovery, and begins talking about an effort to exploit and colonize the planet. They also announced the moon will be named Childress in honor of the brave captain who discovered the system.

January 1st, 77AS
The Alliance Command announced a massive shake up amongst the servicemen and women. The hope is that by shifting them between posts, they might be able to find the best jobs for each. The Alliance Parliament also announced a plan to build a ship capable of constructing jump gates. It will be needed to open the way into the Faryar system, and the moon Childress.

January 2nd, 77AS
The survey of Tereshkova was completed. Baria Frontiers announced the discovery of six jump points. The MSV Amerigo Vespucci will be recalled to Earth for shore leave and an overhaul, and then sent to the Faryar system.

March 8th, 77AS
Minerals discovered in the past few month in the Faryar system are proving to be seemingly limitless. Millions of tons of all the Trans-Newtonian minerals have been found so far, many of them easily accessible. The survey effort continued while plans were accellerated to open the system to colonization.

March 28th, 77AS
Warrant Officer Stacia Childress was promoted to Ensign. As she remains in command of a ship, she still maintains the title of Captain.

June 14th, 77AS
Construction of a newly designed Systems Alliance Space Vessel(SSV) was completed at the Hunters Point Orbital Shipyards. The Apex class Jump Scout is designed to probe jump points before the Baria Frontiers ships move in to survey the system. This decision comes from a growing fear that we might not be alone in this Galaxy. Alliance Command tried to allay any fear by saying the ship was simply an experimental design intended to take some of the workload from the two Napoleon class survey ships.

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes

Two of these vessels, SSV Apex and SSV Apogee, entered service. After a quick shakedown trip to Mars, they would split up and then each would head to one of the unexplored jump points.

June 24th, 77AS
The MSV Leif Ericson returned to Earth for her scheduled overhaul. The ship was still considered perfectly fit for duty, but Baria Frontiers wishes to be as cautious as possible, as a maintenance failure so far from Earth and Mars could be catastrophic. The crew on board the vessel was also happy to be able to spend time with family and friends. They had been on their current voyage for over a year.

June 28th, 77AS
The SSV Apogee discovered the uncharted system of Raheel-Leyya. It is a planetless M6-V star, but the system will still be surveyed for jump points when Baria Frontiers has a free ship.

July 2nd, 77AS
The SSV Apex entered the new system of Columbia. A binary system made up of a M5-V primary and M6-V secondary, the system has a total of 4 planets and 3 comets, all orbiting the M5-V primary. The SSV Apex would now return through Sol and then on to Caestus to probe the jump points that have been discovered there.

July 25th, 77AS
The SSV Apex transited an unexplored jump point and found itself in a rather interesting system. The Hercules system had three stars in close proximity. The K1-V primary is orbited by a D4-VII secondary, which in turn is orbited by an M4-V star. There are a total of nine planets and fifteen moons, none of which could be considered hospitable. Unless Baria Frontiers discovers vast mineral deposits that show promise of easy accessibility, it is likely that this system will be ignored. Any effort to terraform one of the planets or moons would take decades, if not longer.

August 7th, 77AS
Captain Felicia Kandoll at first thought she must have made some terrible mistake. One moment she had given the order to activate the jump engine, and the next her monitor lit up with friendly contacts. The SSV Apogee and MSV Amerigo Vespucci were supposed to be in the Faryar System, and she was supposed to be in a new, previously unexplored one. For a few seconds, her mind tried to come up with an explanation to give to her superiors as to how she made this mistake. Thankfully, her sensor officer spoke up first, "Captain, I think we should send a message to our ships in this system, to let them know we're here. And I'm going to send a drone back through the jump point to confirm the loop we've seemingly discovered." Captain Kandoll looked up, mentally shook off her earlier thoughts, and then calmly replied, "Excellent idea, Petty Officer, I was just going to suggest the same thing. After we receive confirmation from the other ships in the system, and the drone reports back, we'll decide upon our next move." It took only a couple of minutes for both the reply messages from the other Alliance ships, and the drone to report back that they had found a stable connection between Caestus and Faryar. Captain Kandoll looked down at her screen, and then back up to her bridge crew, "Alright, lets move back Caestus and continue the exploration. Send a message back to Alliance Command with our findings and updated flight plan."

August 18th, 77AS
The new system of Sowilo was discovered by the SSV Apogee. A binary system made up of a F5-IV primary, and a planetless D7-VII secondary, the system has a number of both planets and moons that show promise as potential colonies. The primary star has a total of six planets and fifty-four moons.

August 28th, 77AS
A team of archaeologists and xenologists on Europa have finally succeeded in their attempt to survey and decipher the ruins on Europa. They have reported that the language and symbology are now fully translated. The alien race that once lived there were known as the Xodar Commonwealth, and they left behind 1,219 installations which might be recovered by a team of skilled engineers. Alliance Command considers this information to be classified, and no mention of it is made in the news. They intend to explore the ruins, and to explain their presence by building a hostile environment training facility near the ruined city. Plans to move installations and troops were set in motion immediately, and a troop transport was ordered to be designed and built.

September 2nd, 77AS
Two more Napoleon class survey ships were built by Baria Frontiers. The MSV Yuri Gagarin and MSV Thor Heyerdahl were immediately dispatched to begin surveying the systems around Sol. These ships would double the gravitational survey capacity of the Alliance, allowing for much faster exploration.

September 3rd, 77AS
The Hydra system was discovered by the MSV Apex. It consists of ten planets, over forty asteroids and dozens of moons orbiting a G8-V star. With only one real terraforming prospect, the value of the system will only truly be known when a planetary survey can be completed.

September 10th, 77AS
A new system, this one known as Gorgon, was discovered by the MSV Apogee. It is the second system to be found that has no orbital bodies.

September 11th, 77AS
The MSV Apogee quickly discovered the system of Malgus. A binary system of a planetless M3-V primary and M4-V secondary, the secondary star has three planets, about twenty moons and over 100 asteroids.

September 14th, 77AS
The MSV Apogee transited into the Newton system through a seemingly ancient jump gate. The system is made up of eight planets, eight asteroids and 118 moons. The two inner most planets are noted as potential terraforming candidates, and then the MSV Apogee moved on to it's next unexplored jump point. A message was also sent to Alliance Command to alert them to the presence of a jump gate, and a drone was left to study it. It was hoped that any information gathered from the gate could be used to accelerate the construction of the Alliance's future jump gates.

September 18th, 77AS
The Amun system was discovered by the MSV Apogee. It is a binary system of a G2-V primary and a K1-V secondary. The primary has nine planets and dozens of moons, while the secondary has nearly 100 asteroids orbiting within 25 million kilometers.

September 25th, 77AS
The MSV Apogee discovered the Balor system. It is found through the final unexplored jump point of the Tereshkova system. The MSV Apogee is ordered back to Earth for shore leave, and Captain Sandra Steffey is nominated the Alliance Service Cross for her efforts in probing an entire system's worth of jump points in one voyage.

January 21st, 78AS
The SSV Thor Heyerdahl completed its survey of Caestus. They reported finding a total of three jump points. They were ordered to refuel at Earth and then head to the Raheel-Leyya system.

January 26th, 78AS
The 1st and 2nd Patrol Squadrons were recalled from their training exercises for routine maintenance.

April 2nd, 78AS
The 2nd Patrol Squadron's overhaul is completed in the Orbital Facilities above Earth and immediately resumes its training exercises.

April 12th, 78AS
The 1st Patrol Squadron follows the 2nd out of the Orbital Facilities and also resumes training exercises.

May 29th, 78AS
A team of research scientists, led by Dr. Larissa Jan, announced today that they had created a stable fusion reaction under ideal conditions. While this means that they are still far from being able to use the technology as a reliable energy source, Dr. Jan said that this discovery will become the foundation of future power and propulsion technologies.
Baria Frontiers also announced that they began construction of two more Discovery class Geo-Survey Vessels. The MSV Amethyst and MSV Diamond would be completed on December 16th, 80AS. The fact that it would take so long prompted Baria Frontiers and the Alliance Parliament to begin talking about how to improve the speed and efficiency of ship building operations.

July 21st, 78AS
The MSV Sapphire returned to Earth after spending nearly 2 years on her current voyage. The Captain and crew were met at the ground-side spaceport and hailed as heroes. The 23 1/2 month journey is a new record for a space-faring vessel.

September 12th, 78AS
The MSV Leif Ericson has reported finishing the gravitational survey of the Columbia system. A total of four jump points were found. The ship was ordered back to Earth for maintenance and the crew was allowed shore leave until the overhaul is completed.

September 17th, 78AS
The MSV Amerigo Vespucci arrived at Earth for its scheduled overhaul. The crew was glad to have the chance to rest before returning to the Faryar system to complete the gravitational survey.

October 19th, 78AS
The MSV Yuri Gagarin started its voyage back to Earth to refuel, resupply and undergo regular maintenance. Baria Frontiers is considering a means of staggering the maintenance schedules of its fleet so that they don't have so many ships in drydock at one time.

November 26th, 78AS
The Raheel-Leyya system is now fully surveyed. A total of four jump points were found by the MSV Thor Heyerdahl. The Captain notified Baria Frontiers of her intent to return to Earth for maintenance and shore leave. This is the fifth ship that will be out of service for routine maintenance and R&R, leaving only one Baria Frontiers ship still surveying. The board of directors immediately decides to stagger these events by ordering some of the fleet to stay out longer than before. This will likely cause some discontent among the crews that will be away from home for a longer period of time, but the promise of extra pay and only one extended tour should mitigate any problems.
